SOWN est un nouveau groupe qui fait du Metalcore, de la musique de djeunz quoi. Aujourd’hui, c’est bien connu : si tu n’incorpores pas des éléments Core à ton Metal, tu sonnes déjà has been. Dans le genre, SOWN se veut plutôt grand public et fait dans le fréquentable. Downside, c’est le type d’album que le jeune ado en baggy et en rebellion pourra demander à ses parents de lui acheter pour Noël : pas de Parental Advisory à l’horizon même si leur musique n’est pas dénuée de violence (« Seven ») et un groupe dont les membres n’ont rien d’effrayant. Après tout, il faut bien que jeunesse se passe. Mis à part ce constat, qu’en est-il du contenu ? Que faut-il retenir de cette version italienne de DRY KILLING LOGIC ? Les compos sont certes sympathiques mais rien qui ne soit réellement mémorable d’autant que lorsque SOWN s’éloigne d’un genre, c’est pour s’en rapprocher d’un autre, dans lequel KORN fait figure de leader (« Overrule », « Primal ») et où SOWN est encore loin d’apposer sa propre marque. L’ensemble reste toutefois bien exécuté, les guitares sont aiguisées et la rythmique maîtrisée ; la production est efficace, quant à l’alternance de vocaux entre les deux chanteurs, elle n’est pas désagréable. Mais il manque indubitablement à tout ça une touche d’originalité, même si les Italiens nous proposent une reprise bienvenue de « Suicide Note Pt.1 » en hommage à Dimebag Darrell qui nous prouve que les connaissances et les influences du combo ne se réduisent pas à ces dernières années. Si SOWN a une quelconque ambition, il ne pourra s’abstenir d’approfondir dans les années qui viennent sa personnalité pour relever le niveau d’un Downside trop fade, qui manque encore de saveur.
