Pour beaucoup, le Death venant de Suède c’est ce Death mélodique venant de Göteborg… DARK TRANQUILITY, AT THE GATES, IN FLAMES… et bien il faut compter avec d’autres groupes plus brutaux qui pratiquent un Death brutal et violent, directement inspiré de la scène floridienne. INSISON fait partie de cette deuxième catégorie. Ne connaissant pas le groupe ni sa discographie, je découvre INSISION avec ce troisième opus dénommé : Ikon. Après quelques recherches, je vois que groupe existe depuis 1998 et a sorti de nombreuses démo, 2 splits et donc deux albums, dont le dernier Revealed And Worschipped avait reçu un accueil mitigé. C’est donc sans aucun apriori, que je découvre Ikon.
Dès les premières secondes, l’écoute est prenante. Chaque instrument est parfaitement audible, INSISION cherche à peaufiner son travail, à être plus subtil que brutal. Evidement Ikon est un album de Death brutal où l’on subit un déluge de guitares grasses sans pour autant être dans un vacarme incessant comme sur le très efficace : « Depleting The Black Dust ».
Les rythmes sont le plus souvent soutenus, où les morceaux variés alternent entre la folie dévastatrice et les passages maîtrisés plus lourds. Les premiers titres sont très directs, avec des structures classiques (il faut comprendre : couplet, pont, refrain, solo…) où le groupe ne s’embarrasse pas avec des manières inutiles.
Ikon est un album de Death pure et authentique où il subsiste quelques faiblesses : on a la fâcheuse impression que les derniers morceaux pompent leurs idées dans les précédents. Ok la première partie de l’album est particulièrement réussie, mais cela ne justifie pas ce manque d’inspiration. Le chant de Carl Birath parvient à cacher ces lacunes en vomissant avec classe ses insanités.
Ikon s’avale sans aucune difficulté, mais on risque d’avoir encore faim à la fin du dernier morceau : les 9 titres sont exécutés en moins de 35 minutes… un peu de rab et 10 minutes de plus auraient étés les bienvenues.
