MOTORBAIKS, sont-ce des Hells Angels fans de MOTORHEAD vivant en Suisse ? On pourrait le supputer cependant on est à des années lumières de cela car ce combo helvète se pose plus comme étant un défenseur acharné d’une certaine idée du Heavy Rock traditionnel des années 80. Fondé par son maître à penser René Baiker en 2003, ce même biker est pourtant un musicien émérite jouissant d’une bonne réputation au sein même de la confédération helvétique. Il faut dire que ce musicien talentueux et expérimenté s’est notamment fait connaître dans les années 80 avec son groupe TRANSIT, formation qu’il a quitté en 1993 afin de lancer son nouveau petit bébé métallique MOTORBAIKS. Ce bourlingueur a donc plus d’un tour dans son sac.
Dans cette aventure, le trio est composé donc de René Baiker (guitares, basse), du canadien Don James Ayer (chant, guitares) et du batteur de session Peter Haas. Ils ont à leur actif un MCD paru en 2001, Caution, Don't Believe mais c’’est avec leur premier album Sold Your Soul, entièrement écrit et produit par papy René, que le groupe souhaite lancer définitivement la carrière de MOTORBAIKS. Pratique oblige, le trio suisse exécute un Heavy Rock fin et racé.
En effet, le titre d’ouverture «Sold Your Soul» est une très bonne indication du potentiel de MOTORBAIKS, un peu à la manière des australiens d’AC/DC. A la fois rapide et intéressant musicalement, des morceaux à l’image de la bonne et charismatique «Sacrifice» ou bien la convaincante et speedé «Shout It Out» avec son passage à l’orgue Hammond à la façon DEEP PURPLE se partagent le haut de l’affiche avec en prime les remuantes «Lovestruck», «Givin’ It Up» ou la nerveuse «Let’s Do It». Ca sent l’essence, le cambouis et le Heavy comme on l’aime ! Également chargé de la production, René Baiker montre l’étendue de son talent à travers cette rondelle vraiment réjouissante aux morceaux frais. On ne se lasse pas des compositions travaillées et soignées du trio suisse qui profite en plus du son leur permettant de mettre en valeur leur technicité. Mais revers de la médaille, du côté des choses moins bonnes, on pourra relever à mon sens une petite faute de goût avec cette balade sirupeuse un peu désuète qu’est «Give Her A Smile», un brin en dessous et l’insipide «Black & White».
Mis à part cela, ce n’est pas bien grave puisque l’album est d’une cohérence implacable. On en conclut que MOTORBAIKS en la personne de René Baiker est un excellent groupe de Heavy Rock groovy, à l’expérience assurée qui donnera le tournis à de nombreuses autres formations musicales. Un très bon moment à partager avec ces trois bons musiciens que sont les MOTORBAIKS.
