Après avoir signé deux des meilleurs album de Hard Rock de l’année 2005 (ALLEN/LANDE et STARBREAKER), une nouvelle livraison de Magnus Karlsson était largement attendue. Cette fois c’est pour Tony O’Hora (PRAYING MANTIS) que Karlsson a composé. Il est également crédité “all instruments” ce qui donne un petit aperçu de ses capacités.
La bonne nouvelle c’est que, à l’écoute de ce nouveau projet, on a confirmation que Karlsson n’est pas simplement un bon musicien de studio avec des aptitudes à la composition ; il a un style, une personnalité. Il est difficile de ne pas faire de rapprochement avec le travail qu’il a fourni pour STARBREAKER. On retrouve ce Hard Rock percutant mais mélodique à souhait, souvent mid-tempo sur lequel le chant de Tony O’Hora vient se poser en toute logique. On balance donc entre un Heavy light (certains riffs sont particulièrement tranchants) et Hard FM (quelques ballades, beaucoup de mélodie).
Hélas, le résultat est tout de même moins concluant que pour STARBREAKER. Il semble que O’Hora ait hérité des compos dont ni Tony Harnell, ni Jorn Lande, ni Russell Allen ne voulaient ! On ne peut pas pour autant parler de déchets, vu que Escape Into The Sun est un album extrêmement correct, qui s’écoute avec un plaisir non feint et qui devrait réjouir les fans de Hard Rock affectionnant le mélange d’énergie et de mélodie. Ces derniers auront bien du mal à ne pas taper du pied.
Et devinez qui se charge de la production ? Bah oui, encore Magnus Karlsson. Là aussi, le boulot est impeccable.
