Formation récente (2009), HUMAN JAIL enrichi notre beau pays qu’est la France d’un Stoner pêchu et rentre dedans. Après un E.P en 2010 (First Step To Break Out), ils nous reviennent cette fois avec un premier album The Soul Allegory.
C’est vrai qu’avec leur premier effort, ils plantaient déjà le décor. Un rock’n’roll qui semblait traverser le Grand Canyon remuant docilement le Colorado. Tout tendait à faire penser qu’on avait à faire à des Ricains expérimentés, jusqu’à la pochette qui dépeignait les paysages des grandes rocheuses. Outre ce fait, force était de constater que ce sont des Lillois qui mènent la barque de ce combo. Alors après un trois titres alléchant, nous étions impatient de voir le boulot qui pourrait être abattu sur une galette de plus grande envergure et ça n’aura pas traîné puisque seulement un an plus tard naîtra le premier album des ch’tis. Et pour couronner le tout il sera masterisé, par Howie Weinberg (NIRVANA, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, etc…) à Los Angeles.
Il démarre avec « Playing The Loosing » et son introduction qui fleure bon de nouveau avec la gratte sèche qui flirte cette fois-ci du côté du Texas. C’est dire qu’ils baladent leur note sur la carte des Etats-Unis tel un road-movie. La musicalité légère s’arrêtera là puisqu’à l’identique de son prédécesseur, il nous laissera de nouveau savourer ce chant gueulard et ce n’est pas péjoratif puisqu’il sied à ravir à ses accords virils. Telle une cavalerie d’étalon Mustang, ils vont piétiner le moindre carré de pâquerettes, mais pour le plus grand bonheur de nos esgourdes. Toutefois rébarbatifs, les titres s’enchainent et se ressemblent, un peu trop peut-être. On ne note malheureusement pas de titres qui se détachent vraiment de l’ensemble tant il est presque linéaire. Malgré tout, ça groove et les minutes défilent avec aisances développant sans cesse la même énergie boostée de testostérone. La mécanique est bien huilée et ça marche comme sur des roulettes. Le charme opère et c’est une évidence surtout lorsque l’on affectionne le Stoner. >
Attention quand même les mâles du Nord de la France peuvent avoir le sang chaud et charmer l’auditoire d’un morceau plus aguicheur tel que « Lust Or Love ? ». Il appâte avec une mélodie lancinante pour laisser exploser la même puissance, présente d’un bout à l’autre de l’opus.
J’ai comme qui dirait un pressentiment, celui que le quatuor Lillois nous réserve encore de belles surprises, et à mon avis leur escapade américaine est bien loin d’être terminée. Reste à savoir s’ils nous conteront leur nouvelle escale avec davantage d’ingéniosité.
