Travel Diary From Inner Landscape, un album soulevant une multitude de sentiments partagés. Alors au-delà du bien et du moins bien, il faut avouer que sincèrement c’est un peu bluffant d’avoir à faire à un combo gaulois, pourquoi ? Parce que lorsque l’on écoute pour la première fois ce disque, on est loin d’entendre les nombreuses bourdes qu’ont déjà fait une palanquée d’artistes de l’hexagone. Loin de moi le fait de porter au prestige les HOLOPHONICS, mais à juste titre on se doit d’y tendre une oreille.
En effet, dès le départ on sait qu’on est face à du Néo, soit, mais pas n’importe lequel. Celui qui est torturé, déchirant, à la manière d’un Brian Molko (PLACEBO) sur « High Life » et d’autres aussi, mais fort heureusement, pas toujours non plus. Certaines pistes nous laisseront un peu de répit pour ne pas s’épuiser de ce chant essoufflé. Il va sans dire que c’est une particularité assez singulière et le rapprochement n’est pas toujours bon à faire. Or ici il me paraît important de souligner le fait que même si le grain de Stef (chant) frôle celui du leader de PLACEBO, la technique elle est bien différente et indissociable des riffs métalliques de Greg et Yann (guitares).
« D.I.D » et « The Other Side » ont ce charme grinçant et rentre dedans qui stimule l’épine dorsale. Une mélodie dont la puissance est bien placée et où cette fois les vibrations ne sont pas abusives comme sur « Modern Fright » qui a la décontenance de nous laisser penser à une constipation passagère certes mais vraisemblablement douloureuse. « Aïe » pour nos oreilles surtout !
Et puis il y a des épreuves comme « A New Life To Come » qui dégage une subtile puissance laissant la belle part à des séquences plus légères et développant ainsi une ambiance cyclique rassurante. Et comme le mot d’ordre du groupe est « puissance et mélodie », ce somptueux mélange sera facilement identifiable dans les compositions finement travaillées et plus lancinantes : « Chemically Mine », « Last Sin ».
Force est de constater que certes nous n’avons pas à faire à quelque chose de nouveau, mais tout ceci est du beau boulot tout de même. Les p’tits gars de l’hexagone semblent en avoir dans le coffre et nous rendent bien curieux de l’avenir qu’ils se réservent et dont nous ne tarderons pas à avoir des nouvelles.
