Metal Mind continue son travail de réédition de tout le catalogue de Empire Records, qu’il s’agisse de bon ou de moins bons albums. A l’origine sorti vers la fin de l’année 2005, ce Self-Proclaimed Existence est le seul et unique album de SAMMATH NAUR, groupe de Black Metal mélodique de Pologne dont le guitariste Valeo a été recruté pour jouer au sein de VESANIA. The Forever War étant l’édition en CD de leur précédente démo.
Musicalement, le Black Metal des polonais se situe proche d’un ARCTURUS pour le coté avant-gardiste et d’un DIMMU BORGIR du début des années 2000. Bien sûr le coté très symphonique n’est pas aussi développé chez les polonais à cause de claviers beaucoup moins présents. Mais les sonorités, les intonations, les structures des morceaux sont proches d’un Death Cult Armageddon.
Le groupe a réussi à pondre quelques titres très inspirés, mélodieux, et très technique dont le meilleur exemple est le très bon « Landscape Of Liquid Colours » aux riffs de guitares très techniques et très mélodieux. Bien que l’album semble décousu du fait du manque de liant entre les morceaux, pourtant certains pris un par un ne manque pas de grandeur et d’ampleur comme sur « All Seeing Eye ». Les deux titres instrumentaux servant d’interlude sont tout simplement inutiles, peu inspirés, ils n’apportent rien à l’album. On a donc le gros défaut majeur de cet album : le manque de liant entre les titres, ce qui donne un album décousu, le titre d’introduction et les interludes sont totalement détachées et semblent être là uniquement pour faire du remplissage, comme si le groupe devait atteindre un nombre minimal de piste pour l’album ou un temps minimum de remplissage. La fin de ce Self-Proclaimed Existence est également plus décevante, les titres deviennent moyens, basique, bien que « A Hand Across The Galaxy » se démarque grâce à ses changements de rythmes et ses mélodies entraînantes.
Le mixage et la production sont très bien adapté à ce style de Black Metal avant gardiste, et bien que le groupe peut se vanter d’avoir un son propre, clair, précis, même si la basse se fait très discrète, Self-Proclaimed Existence ne sonne pas comme un véritable album : il donne le sentiment d’être le regroupement de bons titres sur une seule galette, comme s’il s’agissait d’une vulgaire compilation de morceaux.
