MONS LVNAE (pt) - Seven Winds (2007)

On ne connaît que très peu d’éléments sur MONS LVNAE mais cette entité consiste en une formation venue du Portugal et pratiquant un Gothic Folk Metal adroit et aguerri. Fort de leurs expériences avec leurs deux précédentes démos Imperium Lunae en 2002 et Revidere At Vitam datant de 2005, le quintet originaire de la capitale lusitanienne, existant depuis presque dix ans, possède un niveau plus qu’ensorcelant que l’on retrouve au travers des cette troisième démo intitulée Seven Winds parue cette année. MONS LVNAE (mont de la lune) évoluait à ses débuts dans un Black Death Doom qui a ensuite changé de façon presque naturelle pour s’orienter vers un son dans la veine du Gothic Doom avec les arrivées de leurs partenaires féminines apportant une dimension nouvelle au groupe. L’ambiance de saturne, chargée de spleen et de saudade comme on a l’habitude de dire là-bas se traduit dans les sujets et les arrangements de la formation portugaise.
Premier élément à retenir, une maturité se dégage de ces huit compositions faites maison. Telle l’opposition de l’astre lunaire avec le Soleil, la musique suave et doucereuse de MONS LVNAE évoque sans mal une syzygie de pleine lune. Dans le style, MONS LVNAE n’a à rougir que de peu de choses : pour le Gothic, les lignes féminines de Célia Ramos transportent les émotions et confèrent de la vie aux morceaux tandis que ses acolytes masculins se chargent d’apporter de la profondeur et de la substance gutturale aux paroles. Pour le coté Folk, les passages de flûte commis par Ana Figueiredo sont répandus avec parcimonie et habillent les titres de façon clairvoyante et gracieuse alors que la panoplie des sonorités du genre et les claviers sont utilisés à juste titre.
Des passages intéressants et bien imbriqués, les titres coulent d’eux-mêmes, et on a vite fait d’être appâté par le son MONS LVNAE. Les rythmiques sont bien employées avec des titres marquants tels que la robuste et festive «In Extrema Spe Salutis», la dandinée «Seven Winds», ou la divine «Inexistence» et son ambiance païenne face à l’orientale «The Long Night of Alamut» portée par la voix cristalline de Célia. Et lorsque MONS LUNAE se lance dans l’accomplissement de titres plus posés et intimistes tel que «Lost Promise», on sent le potentiel et la sagesse d’écriture. Un très bon album, super encourageant et entraînant, à l’image de la magnifique «Twilight Skies». Il n’y a rien à jeter dans cette démo. Groupe à la qualité indéniable avec en prime une production plus affirmée mettant en avant le travail excellent des musiciens, on dénote de ce fait certaines ressemblances avec THE GATHERING ou THEATRE OF TRAGEDY du début. Un groupe possédant une grande marge de progression. Une excellente surprise venue du sud de l’Europe. En attendant la suite de MONS LVNAE, on peut se permettre de contempler la Lune en écoutant leurs mélopées…
