Groupe de studio par excellence, OLD MAN’S CHILD n’a malheureusement pas encore réussi à s’imposer comme une formation phare de Black Metal symphonique. Fondé déjà en 1993, Vermin constitue le sixième album du multi instrumentiste et maître à penser du groupe Galder.
Aussi à l’aise dans le maniement des guitares, de la basse et des claviers, le Norvégien assure lui-même le chant et s’en sort avec tous les honneurs.
Bien que l’on ne puisse éviter la comparaison entre OLD MAN’S CHILD et DIMMU BORGIR, là même où Galder officie en tant que guitariste rythmique, on retrouve plusieurs styles dans OMC, du Black, évidemment, mais aussi du Thrash et surtout beaucoup de mélodies.
Bien moins grandiloquent que DIMMU BORGIR, les ambiances créées par Galder se veulent bien plus sombres, alors que celui-ci développe un Black Metal mélodique lent et aux rythmiques lourdes, certains titres sonnant presque Heavy « War Of Fidelity », « In Torments Orbit », ceci constituant la principale différence avec les albums précédents, beaucoup plus hargneux et nerveux.
Toujours entouré de batteurs de talents tels que Tjodalv, Gene Hoglan ou encore Nick Barker, c’est au tour du Danois Reno Killerich de s’y coller et d’apporter sa précision (et non pas sa vitesse pour une fois) derrière les fûts.
Galder se révèle être un songwriter de premier plan, imposant depuis une décennie sa vision d’un Black Metal mélodique et symphonique racé, où tout les éléments sont au diapason et où rien ne dépasse !
Vermin démontre encore une fois (on le savait déjà) que Galder est un auteur compositeur interprète de talent. Un album de Black Metal symphonique plus que satisfaisant.
