Faisant suite à leur premier LP « The Stings Of Conscience » sorti en 2001 et ayant reçu un bel accueil de la part du public, Unearth rempile de nouveau en 2004 avec « The Oncoming Storm », merveille de Metalcore Progressif. Mais cette fois-ci, fort de leur premier succès les ayant amenés sur le devant de la scène, Unearth nous livre un second album qui s’inscrit dans la continuité du précédent, à savoir un Metalcore Heavy teinté de touches progressives.
Ici encore, la qualité est effectivement de mise. Le quintet américain a de grosses dispositions pour l’écriture et l’arrangement de morceaux à la touche « Unearth », prouvant qu’ils sont bien originaires d’une autre planète !
Les compositions riches et recherchées font que l’on ne s’ennuie jamais le long de l’écoute de ces 11 titres malgré la puissance et l’énergie qui se dégage des morceaux. Les passages Heavy et Prog’ sont là pour nous entraîner sur d’autres pistes sans pour autant nous dévier du fil conducteur de chacune des pistes.
Tant au niveau des structures que de l’interprétation, on sent une aisance technique, de même que les lignes vocales du chanteur se sont considérablement affinées et par conséquent améliorées, à mon goût.
Murs de guitares, bases rythmiques ultra carrées, voilà des ingrédients sûrs que vous trouverez sur cet opus. A cela se rajoute une relative inventivité au niveau des compositions. Les solos de guitares sont utilisés à bon escient et la meilleure illustration en est le cinquième titre, « Zombie Autopilot », une véritable petite pépite !
On pourrait encore citer d’autres morceaux accrocheurs, tels que « The Great Dividers », « Black Hearts Now Reign », tous en fait… Ainsi, l’équilibre de l’album est énorme puisqu’il ne souffre aucune baisse de régime. Nous observerons également la présence d’un interlude au piano, « Aries » morceau plus intimiste. On pourrait ainsi croire que cet LP se clôturerait d’une façon un peu plus subtil, mais c’est sans compter sur la faculté d’Unearth à nous asséner ses riffs dévastateurs.
Il y a donc fort à parier que ce groupe jouisse d’un avenir prometteur… une affaire à suivre de très près…
