La mode est aux groupes de Metal à chant féminin qui fleurissent un peu partout avec plus ou moins de bonheur. Mais il faut admettre que, dans le genre, XANDRIA figure parmi ceux qui s’en sortent le mieux. Le groupe avait déjà favorablement retenu notre attention avec son album précédent qui avait, paraît-il, connu un certain succès dans son pays natal, l’Allemagne. Il confirme ici son talent et ses capacités avec un album moins gothique et plus proche du Metal lyrique.
La superbe voix de Lisa Schaphaus est incontestablement la pierre angulaire de ce combo dont les musiciens sont volontairement en retrait. Tout est donc fait pour donner de l’ampleur au chant qui nous entraîne dans une douzaine de compositions aux ambiances envoûtantes et paisibles.
Pour apprécier pleinement cet album il faut savoir s’y plonger sans attendre une foule de riffs. Certes on y entend de la grosse guitare, mais il est évident que le propos n’est pas là. Les amateurs de Metal lyrique trouveront largement leur compte avec ce “Ravenheart”.
Quelques titres attirent immédiatement l’attention : “Snow-White” avec ses mélodies orientales et ses riffs est incontestablement un des incontournables. La langoureuse “Some Like It Cold”, ma favorite, confirme que le chant est, à lui seul, capable de porter le groupe. On pense évidemment à EVANESCENCE. “Keep My Secret Well”, le morceau le plus Heavy de l’album n’est pas le meilleur mais il a le mérite de muscler l’ensemble sans le dénaturer. Le reste est peut-être moins marquant mais il est toujours de qualité.
XANDRIA mérite manifestement une oreille attentive.
