Comme dirais King Ju, SKURL… « qu’est-ce que c’est qu’ce truc ? ». Eh bien, c’est un projet solo initié en 2006 et qui mettra deux ans à sortir une première démo quatre titres. Ceux-ci sont repris dans la démo cuvée 2009 qui présente cinq des dix titres disponibles sur le site du groupe. Commençons par la fin, si vous le voulez bien (et si vous le voulez pas, je m’en bats les couettes de toutes manières). Oser reprendre « Touch Me » de SAMANTHA FOX dans une version plus métallique, fallait quand même oser. Enfin, oser, tout le monde peut le faire, faut l’assumer après. Et c’est ce que fait très bien SKURL. D’ailleurs, « Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now » est en cours d’enregistrement. LUDWIG VON 88 avaient repris le titre phare de la grande concurrente, SABRINA, « Boys Boys Boys ». Mais bon, eux, ils avaient l’habitude d’assumer leurs conneries. Je ne suis pas certain que ce soit par contre une « connerie » pour SKURL…
Bon, côté Goth, on a déjà vu mieux que SAMANTHA FOX, donc va falloir se plonger plus vers les autres morceaux. Alors, on a ici un Goth plus version SISTERS OF MERCY que version… bah tout ce qui peut sortir maintenant estampillé « Goth ». C’est mélodique et sombre. Presque froid par moment. Le tout n’est pas forcément aidé par la production très amateur. D’ailleurs, on excusera aussi les semblants d’approximation tout simplement parce que la guitare n’a pas été lissée par une production meilleure. Surtout que les solos, eux, sont plutôt bien réussis. Mais c’est vrai que la production n’aide pas à entrer dans l’univers de SKURL. Guitare trop en avant, batterie trop en retrait, basse quasi inexistante… Et, personnellement, une voix qui m’a un peu dérangée, mais je ne suis pas un grand fan de ce genre de voix (qui va pourtant pas si mal avec l’ambiance qui veut se dégager des morceaux).
Pour l’instant, c’est très amateur comme démarche. Mais je pense que SKURL mérite quand même quelques encouragements pour continuer sur cette voie.
