Axel Rudi Pell suit son bonhomme de chemin au fil des années, sans se préoccuper des modes, c'est pourquoi nous ne sommes pas surpris par le style de ce nouvel opus. Pas surpris, mais pas déçus non plus. Car le guitariste allemand sait ce qu'il veut et fait preuve d'une assurance infaillible lorsqu'il s'agit de composer.
Ce "Kings And Queens" s'inscrit dans la logique des albums précédents, on y trouve de très bons titres comme le mid-tempo "Legions Of Hell" moins brutal que le titre ne peut le laisser paraître, ou "Strong As A Rock" et son refrain imparable dans l'esprit de TWISTED SISTER. Les inévitables ballades, "Sailing Away" et "Sea Of Evil", sont supportables. Le tout reste assez éloigné de ce que peuvent produire les Allemands en général (sauf peut-être PINK CREAM 69), ce qui est sans doute dû au fait que ARP travaille avec des chanteurs américains depuis longtemps.
On notera toutefois que l'album s'ouvre sur une intro assez pompeuse, digne des années 90, suivie d'un titre très true-Metal, "Flyin' High", qui n'aurait pas choqué sur le dernier HELLOWEEN.
La seule fausse note est commise par Johnny Gioeli qui force ça voix dans les graves au début de "Forever Angel" alors que son timbre ne s'y prête guère. Pardonnons-lui cette coquetterie car il assure un travail remarquable sur un album en tous points supérieur au dernier HARDLINE dont il est aussi chanteur.
Ajoutons qu'une production exemplaire achèvera de combler les fans, faute de conquérir les autres.
