KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, CALIBAN, TRIVIUM, ALL SHALL PERISH, UNEARTH. Voilà entre autres ce que vous pourrez entendre sur ce disque, un énième album de Metalcore aux saveurs aussi variées et originales qu’un Menu Maxi Best Of. Certes, ce menu est bien connu depuis longtemps, mais il faut croire que certains ne se lassent jamais de manger les mêmes choses. Donc pour ne pas changer, on assiste ici à une alternance entre couplets syncopés et refrains mélodiques, avec des influences allant du Heavy au Death en passant par le Hardcore. Pour agrémenter le tout, on nous sert des Mosh Parts et des petits solos de guitare d'une prévisibilité déconcertante.
Evidemment, le tout est opéré de manière très professionnelle, et c’est ce qui finalement réussi à faire passer ce plat réchauffé un bon millier de fois. De nos jours, on est tellement baigné dans ces sonorités qu'il nous faut un réel effort d'esprit critique pour en déceler cette fadeur sous-jacente. Le premier venu aurait vite fait de se laisser prendre et de se dire "Ouah ça pulse!". I KILLED THE PROM QUEEN n’est donc assurément pas le groupe de la décennie, seulement un par mis tant d’autres qui cherche à faire de la musique sans trop se casser la tête. Pour autant, cela n’empêche pas que l’album puisse paraître agréable à l’oreille, du moment que l’on ne cherche pas à écouter quelque chose de particulièrement intéressant et novateur. Quand on voit le nombre incalculable de personnes qui écoutent avec ferveur des groupes d'une insipidité flagrante, on se dit que I KILLED THE PROM QUEEN saura trouver son public sans trop de difficultés. Ou pas, étant donné que le groupe a déjà splitté. Cet album posthume serait donc le manifeste d’un groupe bientôt oublié ? C’est quoi leur nom déjà ?
