On l’a déjà dit, répété et entendu des centaines de fois, SIRENIA est le groupe formé par Morten Veland (Voix et guitare) à la suite de son exclusion du groupe dont il était le leader TRISTANIA. Cette éviction date déjà de quelques années, mais elle reste mémorable. An Elixir For Existance est le second opus proposé par le groupe, et bien évidemment, on tiens entre nos mains et nos oreilles un album qui aurait pu être enregistré par TRISTANIA. Cela démontre une fois de plus que Morten Veland était bien la tête pensante et le principal compositeur de TRISTANIA. Ce second album est dans la continuité de Beyond The Veil (dernier album de TRISTANIA enregistré avec Morten) et de At Sixes and Sevens (première offrande de SIRENIA).
An Elixir For Existance est un album de Metal Gothique, symphonique, très fouillé, riche. Les vocaux sont à la fois Black criard, gutturaux, graves, ténébreux, il y a aussi des chœurs d’église, un chant féminin magnifique, des orchestrations des samples… bref une multitude de choses qui rendent cet album attrayant, parfois à la limite du Rock. Les mélodies sont profondes, raffinées, inspirées (« Lithium And a Lover »). Chaque morceau a son identité propre sans pour autant se démarquer totalement des autres. Tous les instruments, éléments, ingrédients musicaux et photographiques du mouvement gothique sont présents. L’ombrageux, la noirceur, le romantisme et la mélancolie sont ressentis tout au long des neuf titres du skeud.
La voix claire masculine est très ténébreuse et envoûtante. Le son des guitares est lourd et saturé, la basse est ronronnante, les orchestrations inspirées, les percutions volumineuses… chaque titre est peaufiné au maximum (qui a dit comme TRISTANIA ?). Aucun détail n’est laissé au hasard, chaque note de piano, partie de violon est préméditée. Chaque titre dégage une profondeur et une ampleur certaine. Un véritable travail de fourmi a été nécessaire pour l’enregistrement de ce disque.
La richesse de l’album est tellement énorme que cela peut devenir édifiant. Tout est tellement travaillé et préparé que cela peut parfois prendre le dessus sur l’émotion que doit dégager ce genre de musique. An Elixir For Existance n’en reste pas moins un superbe album de Metal à tendance gothique très mélancolique et symphonique.
