Line-up
: Robby Boebel (guitare et claviers), Carsten "Lizard" Schulz (chant), Roger Tanner (batterie), Thomas "Hutch" Bauer (basse)

Dicographie : Criticize The Truth (Album - 2002)

Metal-Impact. "Lizard", d'où vient ce surnom ?

Carsten "Lizard" Schulz.

MI.

On s'est régalés, tu peux me croire !

MI.

MI.

==================== ENGLISH VERSION ====================

I discovered EVIDENCE ONE on SAXON's show, in Paris. And I really freaked out...

Line-up
: Robby Boebel (guitare et claviers), Carsten "Lizard" Schulz (chant), Roger Tanner (batterie), Thomas "Hutch" Bauer (basse)

Dicographie : Criticize The Truth (Album - 2002)

Metal-Impact. "Lizard", where does this nick come from ?

Carsten "Lizard" Schulz. From some american friend of mine, who is a radio DJ. Over a couple months we kept talking about tattoos, and I told him, I always wanted a tattoo of a lizard, which I finally have. One day he started calling me "The Lizard". That's were it came from.

MI. Carsten, can you introduce the band members ?

Lizard. Well, I'm the lead singer of EVIDENCE ONE. I'm also singer for German Hard Rock act DOMAIN. Then we have Robby Boebel on guitar. He's the main songwriter and producer. He's also mainman of German FRONTLINE. Also of FRONTLINE is our bassplayer Hutch Bauer. Drummer on our album was SHAKRA powerhouse Roger Tanner, who meanwhile quit the band. For our tour with SAXON we had Rami Ali in doing the drums, who's also in FRONTLINE. Rhythm tour guitarist is Wolfgang Schimmer. That's it.

MI. What's the story of the band ?

Lizard. The story behind EVIDENCE ONE is that Robby originally wanted to do a solo album besides FRONTLINE. I was to sing on this album. But after we started working together we soon found out that this is much more than only of solo project. So we formed a new band together with Hutch and Roger. Our debut CD "Criticize The Truth" went way more successful, than we all planned. That's why we got the chance to tour Europe with SAXON.

MI. Why did you choose the name of "EVIDENCE ONE"

Lizard. Basically because it sounded cool ! At first, we wanted to call the band EVIDENCE, but found a couple bands by the same name. So we added ONE - there can be only ONE, you know?!

MI. What are the themes of your first album, "Criticize the truth" ?

Lizard. Mainly states of mind, I was in within the last past years. Nothing special, because I always try to leave some space open for interpretation in my lyrics, but basically it's emotional paths, I was going through.

MI. For the release of your first album, you played as guest on SAXON's tour. What was your feelings ?

Lizard. Simply blown away! When Robby and me first started this band, we never ever thought of playing live! In fact, the first show the band ever did, was the first show of the tour on Osnabrück. So, you saw the 8th ever EVIDENCE ONE live show! It was absolutely cool! A new band kicking off touring Europe with one of Heavy Metal's alltime legends! Crazy! Absolutely crazy! We had our fun, believe me!

MI. How did the public, in general, welcomed you ? What did you think about the french public ?

Lizard. Well, I think, most people seemed to like is. At first, we saw ourselves a little like underdogs, because we were way more melodic and softer than the other bands were, but especially to the SAXON sound we seemed to fit pretty well. We're doing two more shows with the guys in Germany by the way. As for the Paris show, this was crazy! When we heard, we should be starting at half past seven, we didn't think of many people there, but the place was already packed - and the people kicked major ass! We had so many cool reactions and e-mails from France! Believe me, we all love to come over again as soon as possible !

MI. In relation to the present german Heavy Metal bands, don't you think that EVIDENCE ONE distinguish from them ? Is it a personal choice ?

Lizard. Of course, we're not a typical German Heavy Metal act, thinking of bands like EDGUY, BLIND GUARDIAN or GAMMA RAY. Personally I see us more like a Hard Rock band in the tradition of acts like VICTORY or BONFIRE. Sure, we turned to be way heavier live, than we are on CD, but I still won't call it Metal - but, if someone does and likes it, who cares ?!

MI. What are your influences ?

Lizard. Personally I grew up with the mid-eighties US Hard Rock sound of bands like DOKKEN, Y&T, TWISTED SISTER or early BON JOVI. Later I got more into classic Rock, like LED ZEPPELIN, RAINBOW or DEEP PURPLE. I think, you can hear bits and pieces of that in my singing. As for vocalists, my favourite singers or the ones that influenced me most, were Robert Plant, Ray Gillen, Jon Bon Jovi and Sting.

MI. After a first album and a european tour, can you tell us about your coming plans ?

Lizard. Well, besides that we all will release albums with our other bands DOMAIN and FRONTLINE, we already started writing new material for the 2nd EVIDENCE ONE album, which we will record after the SAXON shows, we're gonna do in April. The album will be entitled "Tattooed Heart" and is supposed to come out in November/December. Maybe, we can do some festivals this summer, but nothing's fixed, yet.

MI. Something to say to the Metal-Impact readers ?

Lizard. We'd like to thank everyone that rocked with us in Paris - you people really kicked ass! …and to all of you that didn't: Get our album and crank it up !
