Ah, ces allemands... Toujours en avance sur tout, toujours taxés de visionnaires. C'est qu'on en viendrait presque à les envier si on n'était pas fiers d'être français. A ceux qui hésitent encore, je leur dis : soyez heureux dans le pays des droits de l'Homme. Pas parce qu'on a DAGOBA, pas parce qu'on a GOJIRA. Mais parce qu'on n'a pas LARCENY. De temps en temps, et c'est un évènement vraiment rare, débarque sur la pointe des pieds un groupe qui vient rééquilibrer les débats. Non, les allemands ne sont pas constamment en avance sur tout, et un projet comme LARCENY est même plutôt en retard. Comme quoi, il y a du bon et du moins bon partout. Enfin bref, ce n'est pas la question. L'idée de base n'était pourtant pas si dégueulasse. Un groupe de Metal mélodique extrême mené par deux voix (une masculine, l'autre féminine), un clavier et une section rythmique qui s'inspire des IN FLAMES, LACUNA COIL, CHILDREN OF BODOM et autres joyeusetés à peine commerciales (le mot est lâché !) ? Et après tout, pourquoi pas ?
Deutsche Qualität. Oui mais non. Déjà, pour commencer, on ne pige pas l'identité musicale de ces énergumènes qui se mélangent complètement les crayons. Il y a du Neo, du Thrash, du Gothic, du Death mélodique, du Metalcore, du Heavy, du Black. Manquent à l'appel : Viking Metal, Power / Speed Metal et Grind. Dommage, My Fall avait vraiment tout pour être un album ultra-complet. Du coup, à vouloir dédoubler et dédoubler encore sa personnalité, LARCENY perd le peu d'âme qu'il manifestait sur la première compo, symbole d'une époque où l'on ignorait tout de ce qui nous attendait. En vérité, ce Metal (puisqu'on ne saurait être plus précis), est une bouillie fadasse, digne de "mon premier plat de chef" Blédina. Courgettes, aubergines, tomates et poulet. Dans quel ordre ? On ne sait pas. Ce n'est pourtant pas le plus grave. Après tout, ça m'est aussi arrivé de chercher mon chemin. Ça s'appelle la "quête d'identité de genre". A priori, rien d'alarmant, surtout pour une formation débutante. Par contre, la pilule passe beaucoup moins bien, et dans une humeur autrement plus massacrante quand LARCENY fait preuve de suffisance. Ce sont des éclairs qui émaillent My Fall, mais qui zèbrent leur horizon d'un amateurisme tout à fait regrettable. Les arrangements sont bâclés, les riffs torchés à la va-vite ("My Agony Of Aimlessness"). Une pseudo-subtilité est bel et bien distillée au travers des claviers de la belle Conny Ott (puisque jouer le crevard est ma dernière carte à abattre), mais c'est à peu près tout ce qu'il faut retenir de leur travail d'écriture. Tout est insipide, granuleux, indigeste, à commencer par cette doublette vocale qui mettra vos nerfs à rude épreuve. Ça passe pour Anna Rantou, laquelle se contente d'une soupe lyrique mille fois ingérée. Ça casse pour Oliver Gaupp, dans un état permanent de transe vomitive. Tobi Schultka de WE BUTTER THE BREAD WITH BUTTER avait un peu la même façon d'éructer ses propos du temps de Das Monster Aus Dem Schrank, sauf que c'était du dixième degré, collé sur une musique qui ne se prenait pas du tout au sérieux. Le contraire même du concept LARCENY.
C'est donc limpide. J'ai passé un très mauvais moment. J'ai souvent grimacé, j'ai eu parfois un rictus d'incompréhension, mais mon sort n'importe que très peu dans cette sombre affaire. L'important, c'est que ces Allemands prennent conscience des réglages impératifs qui sont à faire. Se trouver une identité, interdire Oliver Gaupp d'approcher un micro, donner des cours de chant à Anna... On peut avoir un groupe de Metal pour le fun et s'y éclater. C'est même impératif. Mais sur ce coup, LARCENY a fait les choses de façon trop professionnelle, que ce soit niveau de la promo ou de l'objet, pour finalement reculer et cacher les nombreuses imperfections de My Fall derrière une juvénilité qui ne doit pas être un bouclier à la médiocrité uniquement quand ça vous arrange.
