Un an après les Lyonnais de REMIND qui nous dévoilaient Le Maître Du Je, il était temps de faire connaissance avec DAGARA et La Règle Du Je pour enfin pouvoir commencer à jouer. Formé en 2007 du côté de la Capitale, le groupe commence par subir les inévitables tracas de la vie de métalleux, passant de la joie d'un premier EP éponyme en 2008 à la douleur immense d'un changement de line-up. Oui, j'idéalise un peu leur bio, car il faut bien avouer que DAGARA suit un cursus somme toute basique et qu'y compris ce second EP intitulé donc La Règle Du Jeu, il n'y a vraiment pas de quoi sauter au plafond. Peut-être la sortie prochaine de leur premier opus, La Route Du Chaos, leur ouvrira-t-elle de nouvelles portes ? En attendant, leur main n'est pas aussi avantageuse que la pochette le laisse entendre.
Barré dans un trip Hardcore / Thrash Metal entendu et réentendu, DAGARA va néanmoins chercher à se démarquer grâce à un éventail d'intentions louables et de singularités. Premier élément intriguant : une percussion (qui est en fait un djembé, peut-être en référence à leur nom évoquant une langue parlée au Burkina-Faso et au Ghana), répond aux frappes frénétiques de Richard. ABINAYA est coutumier du fait, mais DAGARA s'en sort tout aussi bien dans un style un peu plus nerveux. Deuxième facteur marquant : la présence de deux chanteurs, Max et Jimmy. Là encore, ce n'est pas sans rappeler un autre groupe français : BLACK BOMB A. Mais pour le coup, je trouve la complémentarité entre les deux vraiment moindre, pour ne pas dire insignifiante. Ce ne sont pas deux personnalités qui se répondent, ce sont deux crieurs qui se superposent. Troisième paramètre, de loin le plus représentatif de leur mentalité, des paroles en français. On est encore loin de la poésie ultime, mais le verbe est incisif, frappant, tranchant, suffisamment acerbe pour redorer le blason d'un Hardcore bafouillant et hyperactif. Compacte, sans réelle fluidité, la musique de DAGARA n'est pas le point noir de cet EP, mais c'est en tout cas ce qui interpelle le moins. L'entrain d'"Anesthésie" peine à combiner avec la rugosité de "L'Envers Du Décor" ou avec les couleurs Metalcore d'"Azerty". Chaque composition, aussi volontaire et énergique soit-elle, dévoile son indépendance à l'endroit où on aurait justement aimé davantage de liant et de cohésion. Par ailleurs, la production aride et hermétique ne laisse rien filtrer, pas la moindre bouffée d'oxygène. C'est souvent adressé à la manière d'un compliment, mais dans le cas de DAGARA, je pense que ce n'était pas franchement l'objectif et qu'involontairement, La Règle Du Je souffre de sa propre épaisseur, comme un millefeuille qui vire à l'écœurement. Heureusement, on n'en est pas encore à ce stade et DAGARA sauve les apparences sans avoir à forcer son talent.
Néanmoins, ça reste trop illisible pour en déduire quoi que ce soit. Les Parisiens, à un moment ou à un autre, auront forcément besoin d'affiner et d'épurer leur Je s'ils veulent que leur nom ne reste pas qu'un dialecte africain. On saluera les idées, les efforts, car leurs présences combinées réconfortent et égaient considérablement La Règle Du Je, mais on attendra quand même sagement ce premier full-lenght pour se prononcer.
