Ils sont sérieux les polonais là ? Non parce qu'en terme d'horreurs, je pensais avoir déjà un petit vécu, mais cette pochette là dépasse les limites du supportable. L'œil humain n'est absolument pas entrainé à recevoir une telle décharge de couleurs, vaguement éparpillées en un paysage heroic-fantaisiste que même un KIVIMETSAN DRUIDI invaliderait. Du coup, les présentations avec GUTTER SIRENS se feront assez rapidement. Si vous aimez les mecs taillés comme Christophe Dechavanne qui nagent dans des chemises en flanelle XXL et le Power Metal de derrière les fagots, alors Memory Analysis est un album sur-mesure pour vous. D'ailleurs, j'espère pour vous que vous préférez le Power Metal au reste, car c'est à peu près la seule chose de potable dans ce disque. Le contraire eut été dramatique.
Mais oui, je l'affirme à qui veut l'entendre, ce groupe qui sévissait principalement au début du siècle (cet opus est leur deuxième, paru en 2003), à défaut d'avoir des gouts de chiotte en matière de fringues, possède un bon fond. Un fond étonnamment séduisant même, puisque leur musique créative et épique possède (possédait ?) toutes les caractéristiques du Power Metal comme un jeune de ma génération peut encore l'aimer. Pas besoin d'avoir une immense expérience du genre pour comprendre la difficulté de créer un morceau charnu et vivant comme "Memory Analysis", et c'est justement ce qui fait la différence. GUTTER SIRENS la joue décontracté, enjoué, simple, avec des rythmiques percutantes, des riffs galopants, des synthés dépassés (un brin insupportables, comme sur "Voices From Heaven") et des vocalises investies. Avec ce soupçon de Heavy Metal progressif type SAVATAGE dans l'écriture, les Polonais parviennent à donner une continuité à leur œuvre, travaillant les textures, les cadences, les émotions avec des titres forts comme "Figure In The Fog" (sorte de Power-balade avec des pianos lourds et une voix narrative) ou "The Toy Soldier", une composition rétro de chez rétro, aigre-douce, aux allures d'hymne Metal ou de slow enflammé. Sans être particulièrement original, GUTTER SIRENS parvient à faire oublier la douleur infligée à nos rétines par une flatterie de l'oreille très appropriée. Les plus gros poncifs sont de la partie, des solos moyenâgeux aux envolées lyriques de Doman et pourtant, on n'a pas l'impression que Memory Analysis lutte âpre pour convaincre. Tout se déroule de façon fluide, presque trop paisible, avec parfois même des ambiances foutrement bien trouvées ("Forgotten Song") et inattendues. A l'image, je pense, de cet album passionné, qui ne jouit pas d'une originalité extrême mais qui ne souffre pas non plus de vraies lacunes.
Comme quoi, être mauvaise langue est un Art à la portée de tous, mais c'est encore plus jouissif quand le groupe en question vous la met à l'envers avec ses propres armes. J'attendais de GUTTER SIRENS une avalanche de mauvais goût, histoire de dire "vous voyez, je vous l'avais dit". Hélas, cette sortie vieille d'une grosse décennie maintenant est juste un disque de Power Metal traditionnel tout à fait honorable et décent, qui répondra aux exigences des amateurs comme des néophytes. Un Art autrement plus légitime.
