FULL BLOWN CHAOS (usa) - Heavy Lies The Crown (2007)

Très actifs depuis 2003 et leur arrivée sur la scène musicale américaine, les types de FULL BLOWN CHAOS livrent en 2007 leur troisième opus, le premier sous la griffe de Ferret Music. Si les deux disques précédents n’ont pas eu la répercussion escomptée, il n’en est rien de ce Heavy Lies The Crown. Doté d’une production jouissive et d’un artwork attirant, ce jet est d’ors et déjà programmé pour tuer.
Les premiers titres résonnent comme des coups de marteaux dans la tempe. Les américains mixent habilement PANTERA, EXODUS, TESTAMENT, SLAYER avec des consonances plus contemporaines comme KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, AGNOSTIC FRONT ou encore TRIVIUM. Ok, d’accord Mr. Le Rabat-joie, c’est du déjà vu. Et alors ? Il n’empêche que si sur le papier, bon nombre de formations ce sont inspirées des combos précités, il en va aussi que FULL BLOWN CHAOS, à ma grande surprise propose quelque chose d’assez construit pour ne pas dire couillu. Les schémas musicaux sont travaillés, juste assez pour qu’on découvre à chaque nouvelle piste une variation rythmique, mélodique ou même parfois vocale. Déconcertant, voilà le mot ! Dire qu’on aurait pu frôler la catastrophe si les zicos n’avaient pas rattrapés leurs deux premiers titres surgelés avec un incroyable enchaînement de quatre tubes en puissance (« Halos For Heroes », « Fail Like A Champ », « Heavy Lies The Crown » et « Over The End »). Dommage que ce choix peut laisser s’agencer aux 3/4 de l’album un certain creux qui peut devenir gênant. Heureusement que FULL BLOWN CHAOS à alors la bonne idée de casser la routine avec des passages "groovys" ou en mid-tempo débarquant habilement au milieu de nulle part. Il est également à noter que la formation ne nous gratifie pas de l’habituelle piste épique d’une durée moyenne de 6 à 8 minutes chiante en tout point. Sympa les gars ! Ce Heavy Lies The Crown s’achève alors tout doucement (et toujours en finesse) avec une dilogie nommée « Mojave », pas aussi désertique que son nom puisse laisser entendre de surcroît.
Assis sur son trône, l’hybride d’Excalibur et d’Anduril entre les mains, ses imperturbables sujets à crinière à ses côtés, le roi s’incline. Il vient d’écouter Heavy Lies The Crown.
