Mon dieu, que la pochette de ce disque est moche ! On se croirait revenu à des exploits datant des années 80, le contexte pouilleux en moins. Et même alors, les gars arrivaient à assurer plus que ça. Bon, ok, on n’est pas dans la même catégorie de mocheté que HEMLOCK, mais quand même, ce n’est pas bien loin. Passées ces considérations esthétiques, on peut s’intéresser au contenu.
Aujourd’hui, l’extase dans lequel plongeait le Metalcore est passé et on se demande à chaque fois s’il va falloir se taper une heure de musique pourrie et resucée quand on doit chroniquer une nouvelle sortie. Il faut que je sois honnête, j’ai été un peu dépité sur « Barnburner », le premier morceau de l’album. En effet, je n’avais pas l’impression de me trouver en présence d’un groupe de Metalcore mais plutôt d’un groupe de Thrash dont le chant serait assez proche du Hardcore hurlé. L’écoute partait donc sous de bons auspices. Et le reste se poursuivit un peu de la même manière, sans anicroches. Ce n’est que vers le milieu de la galette que des relents de Metalcore classique et agaçant commencèrent à montrer le bout de leur nez. Mais souvent que le bout, le reste préférant se préserver des foudres d’un auditoire blasé. Bien sûr, on a de sérieuses bases mélodiques sur des morceaux comme « Dances With Devils », « Rapture » ou « Old Scratch », mais cela n’est en rien hérissant et seul le dernier morceau se fait violence en intégrant un chant clair. Le reste du temps, c’est hurlé et râpeux, juste ce qu’il faut. Parmi tout cela, « Delivrance » nous pond un riff entrainant et presque jouissif qui aère un peu. Parce que le principal problème de Get Damned est ses riffs qui se ressemblent un peu trop. Du coup, on n’a pas forcément l’impression de changer de morceau tellement les ambiances s’y ressemblent. Et c’est dommage parce qu’on a un disque de Metalcore qui aurait pu montrer une voie différente, si seulement il avait bien voulu varier un peu plus ses effets.
On a donc un disque correct sans être une révolution. Pas de quoi donner envie d’empaler les membres, fion en avant, sur des piloris même pas graissés. On ne sait jamais, ils peuvent servir et revenir avec un prochain album vraiment meilleur.
