Nouvelle signature pour le désormais légendaire label anglais Earache, qui d’année en année élargit toujours plus son champ d’action. Comme le titre de l’album l’indique, SSS signifie Short, Sharp, Shock, ce qui n’est assurément pas une tromperie sur la marchandise. La photo sur le verso de la pochette ne laisse d’ailleurs aucune place au doute, au vu de la tronche des zigues, on sent qu’ils ne sont pas là pour faire la nique à TOKYO HOTEL.
On nous vend ça comme du Thrash, c’est possible, mais la musique de SSS doit bien plus au Hard-core, dont il emprunte les sentiers escarpés à de très nombreuses reprises. Ca ne bricole pas, les potars à fond, la rage au ventre, et on égrenne les 17 titres de l’album sans se poser de questions.
Ca rappelle un peu BORN FROM PAIN, en plus haineux, et plus inspiré. Je dirais même que par moments on croit retrouver l’atmosphère qui avait animé les deux albums de ACROPHET dans les années 80, avec le son 2007 bien sur.
L’homogénéité règne sur ce skeud, et le bloc qu’il représente saura satisfaire les plus nerveux d’entre vous. Je conseille aux plus épileptiques des titres comme « The Answer Is Never », « Overload » et leur tempo speed et âpre, ou encore « Last Man Standing » et son torrent de décibels non contenu. La joie (??) bien core de « Hallowed Grey » est aussi bien contagieuse que le riff de l’instrumental « OJ Skyrkts » est guilleret. On se croirait revenu à l’époque des premiers albums de MADBALL !! « Warhorse » méritera son titre en concert, et « L.B.P » donnerait le sourire à un pitbull fraîchement castré.
SSS mérite bien son nom, et saura égayer vos soirées « bière et punk » du samedi. A écouter impérativement sur la pelouse d’un stade de foot !!
