MORD est énervé et il nous le fait savoir à travers ce pamphlet antichrétien (quelle originalité !). Le livret ne contient pas les lyrics, les morceaux sont sommairement numérotés de « Opus I » à « Opus IX » (alors que l’album ne contient que huit titres), mais le visuel et le titre, Christendom Perished, se suffisent à eux-mêmes. En à peine 37 minutes, MORD entend faire de l’aspect linéaire et circulaire de ses compos un atout : chaque morceau tend ainsi à tourner autour de deux-trois riffs maxi. On entend bien ici ou là sur « Opus II », « Opus III » et « Opus VII » les bruits d’une scie à métaux menaçante ; pour le reste, MORD part en guerre tête la première, dans une attitude obstinée, aux accents thrashisants et même punkoïdes. MORD, en matière de True Black, parvient toutefois à mettre à profit une production supérieure à la moyenne du genre pour faire valoir la personnalité de chacun de ses « Opus », mais le caractère trop répétitif finit par nuire à l’ensemble. Il faut attendre l’« Opus VI » pour découvrir un groupe qui sait proposer des structures plus travaillées et variées, même si dépasser les six minutes reste vraisemblablement trop présomptueux pour le combo. Certains riffs ne sont pas dénués de charme mais il reste difficile pour l’auditeur de véritablement distinguer ce qui relève de la sincérité ou du simple opportunisme.
MORD donne la désagréable impression que le True Black a déjà dit tout ce qu’il avait à dire et qu’il n’est pas un territoire propice à l’innovation. Pourtant, des formations récentes nous prouvent le contraire, tout en perpétuant l’esprit des Anciens…
