Doro Pesch ne va pas décevoir ses fans avec ce nouvel album. C’est une bonne chose puisque son dernier véritable album remonte à 2002, il fallait donc être à la hauteur. Warrior Soul est un bon condensé des capacités de la belle Allemande qui nous livre ici un petit florilège de bonnes chansons. Certes l’ensemble n’est pas d’une originalité à tomber à la renverse, mais la qualité générale est plus que satisfaisante, sa voix éraillée ayant toujours le même charme.
Certains morceaux s’apparentent au Heavy Metal des 80’s : “My Majesty” et “Thunderspell” dans un style très classique, le lent “Creep Into My Brain”, le Speed “Haunted Heart”.
C’est surtout la power ballade “Strangers Yesterday” qui a retenu mon attention : une belle montée en puissance et un refrain très accrocheur. Là encore, l’efficacité prend le pas sur l’originalité.
Par contre on pourra déplorer un certain déséquilibre puisque Warrior Soul compte tout de même 5 ballades (plus une power ballade) ce qui ramollit sérieusement l’ensemble. Certes Doro a prouvé depuis longtemps qu’elle maîtrisait ce style, mais l’on ne peut s’empêcher de constater que certaines d’entre elles tournent un peu en rond.
Warrior Soul est donc un album très correct, convenablement produit et agréable d’écoute à condition de ne pas être réfractaire à un peu de douceur.
