Dante XXI. Tel est le nom du prochain album du ô combien cultissime groupe de Thrash Metal Brésilien SEPULTURA. Après le pauvre Roorback sorti en 2003 et dont plus personne ne se souvient, nous étions en réel droit d’attendre de SEPULTURA quelque chose de plus consistant eu égard à leur glorieux passé (ah, Schizophrenia et Arise, que de bons souvenirs !).
Bon, très bien, on le sait, Max Cavalera (SOULFLY) ayant quitté le navire voilà un bon bout de temps, il n’en demeure pas moins que le reste de la formation originelle est toujours présente, et ce malgré le départ de la tête pensante, ses anciens acolytes ont à mon sens encore assez de talent et de choses à dire pour que SEPULTURA rime à nouveau avec réussite et engouement de la part des fans les plus défiants!
En tout cas, c’est ce que ce dixième opus studio des Brésiliens tentent de démontrer. Agressifs, rageurs, les Sud Américains n’y vont pas avec le dos de la petite cuillère ! Ca démarre fort avec l’intro du second titre «Dark Wood For Error». Même Derrick Green semble plus à sa place et plus convaincu par son chant ! Riffs puissants, basse clinquante, percussions maîtrisées de mains de maîtres, le début de l’album s’annonce sous les meilleurs auspices avec le morceau suivant «Convited In Life». Avec «City Of Dis» et ses rythmiques de mammouths, ils livrent un des meilleurs morceaux de l’opus.
Titres speeds et limpides, on dirait que SEPULTURA a mangé du lion et est sorti de sa léthargie. Ainsi, «False» poursuit dans cette dynamique de ravage à la Brésilienne. Les parties vocales collent parfaitement bien avec les compositions, si bien que le mariage des influences Hardcore de Derrick Green et le sens de la rythmique de Igor, Andreas et Paulo Jr porte enfin ses fruits.
Le groupe a agrémenté l’opus d’intros, c’est-à-dire d’interludes qui permettent d’aérer l’ensemble, même si celui-ci n’est pas si extrême que cela ! «Ostia» reprend les hostilités de manière plus posée et montre que les quatre musiciens ont d’autres arguments à faire valoir ! Les cartes s’abattent sur place… et pour le moment, le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est que l’on est agréablement surpris par ce Dante XXI.
Nonobstant, avec des titres comme « burried Words » ou «Nuclear Seven», l’album perd un peu de son intensité. Heureusement, la dynamique retrouve son cours avec des titres comme «Crown & Miter».
Comportant quinze plages, on s’étonnera de la relative courte durée de l’album avec moins de quarante minutes au compteur !
Production digne de ce nom, on conviendra aisément qu’il ne s’agit pas du meilleur album de SEPULTURA mais au vu des productions moyennes de ces dernières années (je pense notamment à Roorback et à Against), on ne fera pas la fine bouche et on prendra cet album comme un bon SEPULTURA ! A l’image du titre «Still Flame», SEPULTURA prouve qu’ils ont toujours la flamme et que ceux qui les avaient enterrés ont eu tort. La tribu Sud Américaine est de retour et pour le meilleur cette fois-ci ! Un bon album à aller défendre sur scène !
