Voici le curriculum vitae de By Night :
Un split CD avec Cipher System paru en 2004 et édité chez Lifeforce Records et un premier album « Burn of Flags ».
Pas de quoi fanfaronner et surtout pas grand chose à se mettre sous la dent!
Toutefois, commençons par une présentation succincte du quintet : formé depuis 1999 au pays des krisprolls et du Père Noel, By Night évolue dans un style à la pure tradition du Thrash / Death suédois auquel ils ont apposés des éléments Hardcore, surtout reconnaissables au niveau du chant.
Les principales influences revendiquées et largement imitées sont les suivantes : Meshuggah, Entombed ou Opeth, (un peu mais pas trop)… des suédois dans le fond, non ?
Or, il ne serait pas intègre de ne pas reconnaître la qualité des compositions qui sont relativement travaillées, carrées et mélodiques. La maîtrise de chacun des instruments est également à créditer: les petits ont été à bonne école et ils le prouvent.
L’homogénéité au niveau de la qualité des morceaux est correcte au même titre que la production qui met en valeur la technicité des musiciens et des arrangements.
Par conséquent, rien à redire sur le plan musical, la maîtrise étant de mise. By Night a bien fait ses devoirs.
Maintenant, quid de l’originalité et de la personnalité du groupe ?
On ne peut que malheureusement constater que le concept sent un peu le réchauffé.
En bref, un album de plus de Thrash / Death suédois à rajouter sur la pile des bons albums de seconds couteaux qui, s’il est vite écouté, n’en demeure pas moins vite oublié.
