DECEIVER (se) - Thrashing Heavy Metal (2009)

Voici revenu, le temps des cerises….Nan, je déconne…
En deux jours, me voici frappé de plein fouet par le passé, et je dois vous avouer que le voyage me parait parfois…long.
Et alors que l’album de DECEIVER, Thrashing Heavy Metal défile dans ma playlist, quelques noms fameux me reviennent en mémoire…
On trouve de tout sur ce CD aux allures de révérence aux illustres anciens. Une pincée de HEXX pour la linéarité des riffs et des vocaux, un soupçon de POSSESSED pour la tonalité du chanteur, le côté hérétique total en moins, une grosse louche de ICED EARTH pour la valse hésitation entre le Heavy couillu et le Thrash maintenu, j’en passe et des plus dispensables.
Non que DECEIVER ne soient que de vilains plagiaires, mais on sent clairement que derrière toutes ces compositions, au demeurant pas forcément désagréables, se cache une inspiration moyenne, qui se contente d’appliquer une recette maintes fois éprouvée.
Alors on pourrait gloser des heures sur ces rythmiques trop timides, qui savant pourtant à l’occasion dépasser les limites de la bienséance (« Ghost Of Souls & Inner Hate », « Dead To The World »), ou sur ces riffs francs et légèrement dissonants qu’on aimerait plus variés…
Mais non, j’ai beau réécouter l’ensemble, et le malaise qui m’avait gagné à la première écoute persiste et signe sa présence d’une dague empoisonnée…
DECEIVER, à force de singer POSSESSED et HEXX en devient franchement agaçant, et j’ai beaucoup trop la sensation d’écouter des chutes de studio, bonnes certes, de Quest Of Sanity ou Beyond The Gates pour pouvoir être clément.
Alors non, Thrashing Heavy Metal n’est pas mauvais, et les générations les plus proches sauront sans doute l’apprécier pour ce qu’il est. A savoir un bon album de Heavy/Thrash, carré, sans surprises, ni bonnes ni mauvaises.
Le genre de CD qu’on écoute une fois, et qu’on ressort par hasard en tombant dessus sur l’étagère.
