A Secret Device sort 5 mois à peine après la formation de TARTHARIA en Avril 2002 à St Petersbourg.
La première chose que l'on peut noter est que la production est tout à fait satisfaisante pour une auto-production. Après, musicalement, c'est décevant. La démo n'est pas très originale, on aura tout au long des quatre morceaux ce sentiment de « déjà entendu ». Et c'est dommage car sur la performance les musiciens assurent! La batterie (Ville Huttunen) tient bien le rythme et arrive à faire varier ses percutions. Les guitares de Jussi Watanen et Yan Svetlannen sont saturantes à souhait. Quoi que un peu ennuyantes, leurs registres ne changent pas beaucoup. Pour ce qui est du chanteur, Tahvo Kenonen, sa voix n'apporte pas grand chose. Sa voix écorchée lasse très vite l'auditeur. Toutes les paroles sont sur le même ton. Le chant ne change pas du premier au dernier morceau. Et parmi ce mélange, se trouve le synthé (Pekka Turtiainen), qui agrémente le tout de notes presque rafraichissantes.
Mais malgré cela, TARTHARIA n'arrive pas à convaincre. La démo est trop prévisible. Les pistes se ressemblent presque toutes. On a vite fait le tour. Seul le synthé permet de renouveler légèrement des mélodies presque toutes identiques.
Pour une fois, il faudrait que les Russes abusent un peu plus de Vodka pour se lâcher sur la partition!
