BURIALMOUND (fi) - Devil's Work (2006)

Formé de trois musiciens T. Sääksniemi (Vocaux), A. Sääksniemi (guitare) et B. Niininen (batterie), BURIALMOUND débite sans aucune retenue un brutal Death Metal dévastateur avec quelques touches de Black. Leur fougue ramène sur le devant de la scène, ce bon vieil esprit d’antan : crade et malsain.
Ces suédois, par pure tradition, nous envoient en pleine gueule leur style massif et pas franchement mielleux. Oscillant entre rythmique écrasante et rapide, les compos de Devil’s Work laissent échapper quelques références américaines. Si les titres « At Golgotha I Masturbate » et « Primevil Disciple » tirent leur épingle de l’album, l’ensemble reste néanmoins très brouillon : c’est un déluge sonore qui envahi l’espace lorsque l’on appuie sur la touche « play » du lecteur CD.
En bonus sur ce CD, on retrouve les enregistrements des débuts du groupe c’est à dire l’album Black Death. Soit 10 titres en plus pour près de trois quarts d’heure de musique en cadeau. Et bien ces minutes historiques mettent en évidence les progrès du groupe tant au niveau du son et de la production, qu’au niveau des morceaux et de leur structure. Les musiciens ont aussi progressé pour gommer partiellement les erreurs et les approximations qui étaient nombreuses sur le premier opus. Malheureusement beaucoup sont toujours présentes sur Devil’s Work. L’inspiration aurait pu être un peu plus développée car l’album devient vite lassant : c’est du brut de chez brut et à partir d’un certain moment on n’en peu plus ! Les titres s’enchaînent à une vitesse terrible en broyant tout sur son passage. Les paroles sont très provocatrices et peuvent choquer les plus sensibles (« Sisters Of Sodomy »).
Je pense que BURIALMOUND n’a pas beaucoup d’illusion à se faire quant à l’impact que son œuvre musicale pourrait avoir sur le marché du Metal extrême. Car même si l’on sent que le groupe y a consacré beaucoup d’énergie, Devil’s Work risque très rapidement de rejoindre les oubliettes qui regorgent de disques du même genre. Son style Black/Death tourne inlassablement en rond et fini par se mordre la queue.
