La Grèce par le passé nous a déjà fourni d’illustres représentants dans le monde du Metal, les plus connus étant entre autres SEPTIC FLESH, NIGHTFALL et ROTTING CHRIST… C’est plus dans la veine de ces deux premiers qu’il faut situer le terrain de chasse de HORRIFIED, officiant dans un Death Metal Mélodique du meilleur effet.
Mais attention, loin d’être de simples suiveurs, la formation Grecque est présente depuis 1990 date de la sortie de leur première démo Eternal Gods, suivi deux ans plus tard d’un EP sorti sous le nom de The Ancient Whisper Of Wisdom. Le premier Album du groupe In The Garden Of The Unearthly Delights sorte de résumé des deux premiers efforts du groupe sort alors en 1993, mais à la même époque alors que NIGHTFALL commence a percer hors des frontières Grecque et s’attaque à l’Europe, cet album passe plus ou moins inaperçu.
Cette réédition cuvée 2006 nous permet alors de redécouvrir le son du groupe auréolé d’un bon défrichage mettant en valeur les lignes mélodiques du Death tranchant de HORRIFIED. Justice est rendue car In The Garden Of The Unearthly Delights est un album tout à fait équilibré et intéressant sur lequel il est bon de s’attarder. Les riffs de la paire Stavros/Simos se partageant leads et solos sont implacables et caressent en même temps l’auditeur ce qui rend la longueur peut être excessive parfois des morceaux moins dérangeante. Il aurait été dommage de passer à côté de titres à la mélodie envoûtante tel que « Dying Forest » ou « Seperial Dominion », la re-masterisation permet alors de rajeunir un peu le son d’un album qui a tout de même 13 ans et qui aurait pu paraître bien vieillot et convenu aux oreilles de nos jeunes ouailles.
En résumé ce premier album de HORRIFIED est un bon moyen pour découvrir (redécouvrir) ce groupe et lui laissé une chance de sortir enfin de l’ombre, à vous de décider.
