Après un My Religion pas franchement concluant, la dégringolade continue avec All The Way To The Sun. Car, si la qualité d’exécution est toujours aussi inattaquable, les compositions sont franchement faiblardes. Les 5 premiers morceaux ont tous un point commun : ils ont suffisamment de qualités pour être écoutés avec plaisir mais ils manquent cruellement de percutant et rien ne permet de les retenir. Il leur manque incontestablement quelque chose. Par la suite, l’absence d’inspiration devient évidente et le groupe est obligé d’accumuler les titres de remplissage : “Black Butterfly”, “Mastic Pines” un instrumental incompréhensible, et cette reprise aussi soporifique que farfelue : “What A Wonderful World” de Louis Armstrong.
De cette soupe froide on pourra tout de même sortir “All The Way To The Sun”, adroit mélange entre riffs accrocheurs, refrain aérien et mélodie imparable, le tout bénéficiant d’arrangements magistraux.
Nous sommes à des années-lumières de l’excellent STARBREAKER sorti quelques mois plus tôt. Tony Harnell devrait peut-être se consacrer pleinement à ses projets parallèles.
