Dixième offrande studio pour le producteur/compositeur/chanteur/guitariste qu’est Peter Tagtgren dont nous ne ferons pas l’affront de présenter, la particularité de “Virus” réside dans la constitution d’un nouveau line-up et une nouvelle recrue de choix avec l’arrivée derrière les fûts de Horgh (ex-IMMORTAL, GRIMFIST notamment) et d’un second guitariste.
Un HYPOCRISY au sang neuf qui apporte de la fraîcheur du point de vue créatif des onze nouveaux virus contagieux. Groupe new look, on a droit en plus à un nouveau concept car on assiste à un radical changement de cap concernant les textes puisque les paroles ne traitent plus exclusivement d’extra terrestres et de X-Files en tout genre.
Le contenu ici se durcit et se veut volontiers plus sombre et malsain, une dureté que l’on retrouve principalement au niveau des compositions, beaucoup plus rentre-dedans et rude que les précédents albums du combo suédois, le jeu de Horgh n’y étant pas pour rien : des titres tels que “Warpath” ou “Blooddrenched” sonnent résolument Black avec des riffs très rapides associés aux blasts de Horgh. D’un autre côté, on retrouve des morceaux aux tempos plus lourds et plus cadencés avec “Fearless” et “Let The Knife Do The Talking”, la marque de fabrique d’HYPOCRISY. Presque toutes ces nouvelles compositions valent vraiment le détour, à l’exception peut-être de “Living To Die”, un peu trop "Pop" à mon goût.
Par ailleurs, avec une production massive ayant un gros impact et étant plus directe et Peter Tagtgren derrière les manettes, on était en droit de s’attendre à un résultat pareil et à un son extrêmement puissant.
HYPOCRISY nous macule de ces dix morceaux d’excellent qualité contenus dans ce qui est pour moi leur album le plus finalisé et abouti.
Tout simplement l’album de la maturité. Si vous ne connaissez pas encore la discographie d’HYPOCRISY, je ne saurais trop vous conseiller de vous procurer cette pépite qui saura vous transmettre le virus…
