VOLBEAT et son style bien à lui nous rassasie enfin de cette énergie dont lui seul a le secret. Toujours aussi rock’n roll dans la voix, aussi métalleux dans les riffs, groove dans la rythmique, country sur certaines bribes.
Ca commence dès « Heaven Nor Hell » où les danois nous abreuvent d’une potion vitaminée. Plus féroce, « Who They Are », morceau tranchant, plus bestial, à l’image de « New Day » qui lui se pare d’un chant plus léger que son acolyte. C’est toujours dans cette lignée plus sombre que « A Warrior’s Call » viendra rappeler à chaque auditeur qu’on a bien à faire à du Metal pur et dur malgré un swig à la Elvis contenu dans la voix de Michael Poulsen (chant).
C’est tout de même « Evelyn » qui sera le tableau le plus flippant avec des grunts saccageurs auxquels le combo ne nous avait jusqu’ici jamais habitué, mais qui lui sied bien.
Bon, après ce côté bad-boy, n’oublions pas que VOLBEAT est avant tout un quatuor ultra dynamique et festif. Il est évident que sur chacun de leurs albums, il serait impossible de rester statique. Avec Beyond Hell, Above Heaven c’est la quatrième fois qu’ils vont nous essouffler et nous faire transpirer en nous remuant le cul. « Fallen » et « A Better Believer » s’enchaînent joyeusement dans cet état d’esprit.
« A New Day » s’imposera un peu comme un tube à la GREEN DAY, mais à la gratte plus lourde. Seulement pour passer du coq à l’âne, « 16 Dollars » va déverser son flot de vieux rock sur lequel les collégiennes aux jupettes plissées se démettraient le bassin pour un petit twist.
Thomas Bredhal (guitare) électrisera à la perfection « Magic Zone », titre frais et boostant. Ultime chanson, « Thanks », et bien non, merci à vous les gars.
Au fil de leur discographie, le succès est allé grandissant. L’évolution est constante, nous satisfaisant toujours de compositions entrainantes et audacieuses. La générosité de ce groupe est palpable dans chaque opus, chaque morceau et ce jusque sur la scène où ils déploient tous une vitalité débordante.
Quelles autres contrées de leur imagination ne nous ont-ils pas encore fait visiter ?
Après l’écoute de Beyond Hell, Above Heaven, on a déjà envie de leur dire « encore » et avons hâte de découvrir le prochain bijou made in Danemark.
