Après le succès de Wolfheart, MOONSPELL récidive et nous offre en 1996 son deuxième opus. Irreligious est l’un de ses rares albums qui vous laisse bouche bée tant il est irréprochable. Et j’ai eu beau l’écouter près d’un millier de fois (et je suis sincère), je n’ai jamais réussi à lui trouver la moindre faille.
Evoluant dans un Goth Metal teinté de Death, Irreligious n’est pas réellement violent, mais il joue sur les ambiances. Construit autour de mélodies acerbes, de contrastes entre la somptueuse voix Gothique et les hurlements gutturaux et d’arrangements de clavier riches, il délivre une ambiance tout simplement unique, un univers à part entière. Des morceaux tels que « Awake » et « Méphisto » vous resterons en tête indéfiniment, les solos de « Herr Spieglmann » et de « A Poisonned Gift » vous feront planer dans des cieux jusque là inexploités, les roulements de batterie d’«Opium » vous impressionneront et l‘ambiance de « Ruin And Misery » vous comblera. Sans oublier l’extraordinaire claque que vous allez vous prendre à l’écoute de « FullMoon Madness ». Ce titre est tout bonnement une tuerie, avec son atmosphère lourde mais très mélodique, la voix implacable de Fernando, le superbe solo de Ricardo qui vient flatter votre cerveau en pleine effervescence. La production est de très bonne qualité, les morceaux inspirés et originaux, faisant de cet album une véritable icône.
Encore une fois MOONSPELL honore nos tympans, d’une offrande quasi-divine. Je vous le conseille à tous, par curiosité ou juste par amour de la bonne musique. Tentez votre chance, vous risquez de ne pas le regretter.
