Après la sortie de la démo Lacus Mortus en 2007, PHYSIOLOGY OF DARKNESS remet le couvert, avec cette fois-ci un véritable album, intitulé Lunar Trinity. A savoir qu’il s’agit en fait d’un one-man band, composé par Baltack qui a enregistré tous les instruments mais qui pour l’occasion, a choisi d’avoir recours à Fix, pour y joindre sa voix.
A peine un seul regard posé sur la pochette, très sombre, et on sait qu’on va avoir affaire à un bon Black Metal Ambiant. Le logo est par ailleurs plutôt réussi. Mais ce qui nous intéresse ici, ce n’est pas le visuel, mais plutôt le son. Et par ailleurs je n’ai pas été trop déçu. Mis à part par la production, un peu hâtive, les sonorités acoustiques ne sont pas au même niveau que les distortions et le son de batterie est un peu faux. Qu’importe, ici PHYSIOLOGY OF DARKNESS, nous emporte immédiatement dans son univers. Les titres sont bien faits, tristes, mélodiques et assez originaux. Avec quelques expérimentations assez surprenantes comme sur « Lunar Trinity » et ses sonorités industrielles. En tout cas, Baltack semble être doté d’un sens de la mélodie et de la composition sans failles, notamment dans les parties acoustiques très bien réalisées, comme l’intro de « Diane & Hécate » ou « Reign Of The Hundred Harvest ». La voix de Fix tantôt hargneuse, tantôt susurrée et growlée passe bien. L’ambiance m’a fait penser à plusieurs reprises à un CRADLE OF FILTH d’époque ou encore à SETH, autre formation de Black Metal française mais en plus Dark. Les dix titres s’écoutent agréablement et sont plutôt efficaces.
Lunar Trinity est un album qui passe bien, malgré une production un peu faible et quelque redondances notamment au niveau des vocaux. Cependant il s’agit là d’un coup d’essai qui par ailleurs, est loin d’être mauvais. Cela ne m’étonnerait pas que l’on entende parler de PHYSIOLOGY OF DARKNESS plus souvent à l’avenir.
