Il y a beaucoup de bonnes choses sur ce “De Viris ”. Des riffs pertinents jetant les bases d’un Heavy Metal énergique, une volonté de ne pas copier les aînés dont on perçoit tout de même l’influence. Ou, devrais-je dire, LES influences, car SED LEX explore plusieurs directions et le Heavy cède bien souvent la place à du pur progressif. Ce dernière genre est difficile et nombreux sont les groupes qui s'y sont cassé les dents. Ce n’est pas le cas ici, d’abord parce que les musiciens connaissent leur affaire (bon, ce n’est pas DREAM THEATER non plus), ensuite parce que cette approche semble naturelle à ce groupe qui a reçu une formation classique avant de découvrir le Metal. Cela donne des morceaux très agréable comme ce “Harvests Of Disorder”, ou l’accrocheur “Dust ‘N Bones”. Le meilleur titre, à mon sens, étant le magistral “Carrousel” qui ponctue l’album en intégrant des passages de Bach, de l’Hymne à la Joie et du Boléro de Ravel !
Hélas, la production est faiblarde. Les claviers sonnent un peu “datés” et sur certains titres, ça jure franchement. Le chant est également un point faible, car Jean-Luc Maza est un bon chanteur mais sa voix est trop en retrait et il ne semble pas toujours à l’aise avec l’anglais.
Encore un groupe qui mériterait un peu plus d’argent et de temps pour enregistrer.
