Mercurochrome ou confiture de groseilles ? Alors à votre avis, lequel des deux à servi à la conception de la pochette du nouvel enfant des allemands de DAS SCHEIT ? Puisque, le rapport entre le titre et l’artwork est trouble comme les eaux du Gange, je préfère ne pas tenter une entorse au cerveau en essayant de comprendre. La sobriété de ce travail, les teintes changeantes et l’étonnante pureté de leurs créations artistiques suffisent à mon bonheur. Auditivement, ce fut une orgie. Les allemands, qui se rapprochent étrangement d’un pionnier comme DAS ICH de par le nom, la nationalité et à moindre mesure, la musique, effectuent avec So Far From God… So Close To You leur quatrième escapade dans les studios pour un résultat qui dépasse mes espérances.
Loin de moi l’idée de vouloir comparer l’incomparable, mais pour vous offrir un aperçu subjectif de leurs créations, on s’oriente vers un Gothic Metal qui retravaille à sa façon les rudiments du mouvement électronique avec un soupçon de New-Wave, d’Indie Rock et une larme de Metal dans le maniement des guitares. Cette décoction presque « mansonnesque » n’est à vrai dire, pas du tout ma tasse de thé. Alors mettre un 9/10, revient à dire que cet opus frôle la perfection. De l’instrumentale samplée au prologue, c’est un festin que nous sert ces teutons, si frêles et d’apparence inoffensifs. Le trio qui ne réinvente pourtant pas le mouvement base son triomphe sur des pistes envoûtantes, à la tristesse désarçonnante qui traitent avec froideur des sujets qui font tourner le monde ; la religion, l’amour, la mort et l’Homme. Les refrains (et c’est là où nos amis savent ce qu’ils font), restent encrés de longues minutes dans nos têtes. Tout est calculé minutieusement, mais toujours avec une sincérité qui fait plaisir à voir. Le corps des morceaux est d’une simplicité appréciable et mis en exergue de manière permanente par des nappes de claviers qui subliment le tout. « No One » en est le parfait exemple. Cette composition dans la veine d’un LINKIN PARK (rythmique à 2 de tension, motif mélo-dramatique…) ne serait rien sans l’intervention atmosphérique des claviers qui ont failli me décrocher une larme. Mais un chroniqueur se doit de rester fort et humble c’est pourquoi je me suis ressaisi juste à temps pour recevoir l’offrande « Hollow » ; une des tracks les plus abouties. Du haut de ses cinquante minutes, So Far From God… So Close To You nous transporte dans un univers magique où l’émotion est placée sous les feux de la rampe. Le chant n’est pourtant pas merveilleusement ingénieux mais le timbre triste de Clint et son implication colle à l’esprit DAS SCHEIT. Au diable la forme, à Dieu le fond ! Et dire qu’ils se revendiquent « si loin de Dieu ». Peut-être est-ce pour être plus proches de nous ? Et puisque outre-Rhin, on ne recule devant rien pour faire frémir d’extase le moindre centimètre carré de mon épiderme, voilà que Jape Peratolo (TO DIE FOR) et Michelle Darkness (END OF GREEN) s’invitent sur une reprise de Bruce Springsteen et Patti Smith ; « Because The Night » qui, elle, atteint l’excellence. Dernière mention pour Sascha, l’homme à tout faire du combo, qui endosse à lui tout seul le rôle de programmateur, bassiste, guitariste et claviériste. Si toutes ces fonctions sont avérées, le monsieur y est alors pour beaucoup dans la qualité du CD.
Sorti de nulle part, DAS SCHEIT frappe donc un grand coup avec So Far From God… So Close To You et fait office de défibrillateur pour une scène Gothic/Indus mourante. C’est ce qui arrive quand on se rappelle que la musique sert à faire passer des émotions. Trop de monde l’oublie. Pas DAS SCHEIT.
