Fort de leur premier album "Terra Incognita", Gojira nous remet une couche de bestialité avec son deuxième album qu'est "The Link" et autant dire qu'il va faire parler de lui tant son panel stylistique est large...
En effet, Gojira ratisse large au niveau de leurs influences mais arrive à les digérer et ce grâce à un énorme travaille tant au niveau de la structuration que de la production. Certains titres trainent en longueurs mais cela est volontaire et fait de telle manière que l'auditeur ne s'en lasse pas. Les ambiances y sont fortes et presque palpables.
Difficile donc de coller une étiquette à ce groupe qui navigue entre Death, Ambiant, Etno et qui expérimente dans sa façon de composer mais qui, aussi, incorpore pas mal de sons ou autres instruments "inhabituels".
Les mélodies sont lourdes et accrocheuses, les riffs assez tranchants et dissonants, les vocaux oscillent entre clairs, enragés et caverneux (beaucoup moins qu'auparavant!), le tempo est perpétuellement chahuté pour un ensemble très lourd.
Je félicite Gojira qui aura su évoluer sans perdre leur racine, cet album est beaucoup plus abouti que leur précédent. Cela leur promet un bel avenir (no comment sur la pochette qui pourrait faire parler les plus rétissants d'entre nous à l'évolution musicale du groupe et à ses choix "marketing").
Il est difficile de chroniquer de tels albums quand ils sont aussi riches et variés, c'est le casse-tête du chroniqueur... En revanche, en tant que simple auditeur, on en prend plein les ouïes.
Dernière chose, pour les sceptiques comme pour les fans, si Gojira passe près de chez vous, allez les voir, vous ne serez pas déçus car ce groupe est furieusement bon en live et leur son se bonifie au fil des concerts...
