Si vous ne connaissez pas SIKH, et que vous jetez un coup d’œil au packaging du CD, vous allez certainement vous attendre à du Néo-Progressif à tendance arabisante. Quelle erreur feriez vous ! Certes, le mot « progressif » ne parait pas incongru dans cette chronique, mais simplement parce que SIKH progresse à vitesse grand V, et commence à tutoyer les cimes du style qu’il pratique !
C’est du Néo-Core, pas de doute, et à l’occasion de « Hammering The Sun », on aurait presque l’impression d’écouter KORN, sauf qu’un riff comme ça, il y a longtemps que DAVIS et sa troupe ne nous en ont pas fourni !
Vous ne pouvez pas imaginer le bonheur que procure le fait de se rendre compte de la bonne santé de la scène française. Et si vous me lisez régulièrement, vous êtes au courant que le Metal-Core n’est pas forcement ma tasse de thé !
Ben là, j’ai pris une claque. D’abord, le son. Enorme ! Une prod magnifique qui fait claquer la caisse claire et épaissit les riffs au maximum. La voix est mixée à la perfection, pas trop en avant, mais pas en retrait non plus, car Kal à du coffre !
Et puis les compos, parlons en ! Vous avez fait une cure de bœuf les gars ? D’accord, on sent toujours les influences, et sur « Ocean » on croirait presque au retour magique des DEFTONES, mais avec la rage en plus !
Rien que le premier titre, « The Quake » va tout exploser live. Le genre d’ouverture qui va rendre le public dément, et faire enrager les petits collègues. C’est de la bombe bébé !
Mais ce qui est fabuleux, c’est que tous les titres sont du même calibre, ou presque, parce SIKH a choisi l’efficacité, et par efficacité, je veux dire intelligence, aération, pas du bourrinage non stop sur ¾ d’heure.
Les guitares paraissent vivantes, et même sur CD, on a le sentiment que le groupe va sortir de la platine pour ravager le salon. Et quand l’ambiance se fait plus douce, pendant l’interlude bienvenu « Ballad Of The Harmless », la voix se fait caressante, la six-cordes apaisante, mais ça n’est que trompe l’œil, et le surpuissant « Psychotro » vole la vedette à SLIPKNOT, en lui empruntant ses recettes, et en les améliorant s’il vous plait !
Mais bon, sang, c’est bien sur, voilà pourquoi ! SIKH à bien écouté, bien compris, et se permet maintenant de faire la nique à ses aînés en reprenant leurs points forts, mais débarrassées des scories ! Vous imaginez ?
Le meilleur de SLIPKNOT, KORN, DEFTONES, voire MACHINE HEAD sur un même album ?
Et bien One More Piece, c’est ça. Un choc. Un pain dans la gueule.
