Qu’il est loin le temps où les démos de Hard-Core sonnaient…comme des démos de Hard-Core ! En témoigne Question Authority de CROSS X qui sonne mieux que la meilleure production du cru des années 80.
Mais n’était ce pas le propre du Hard-Core de sonner une peu crade, sinon pour l’éthique, au moins pour garder ce plaisir underground d’écouter du deux pistes mal enregistré ?
Nonobstant ce fait, ce produit sonne sincère, et parait sous influence US, avec ses cœurs digne du Néo Metal à la PAPA ROACH sur fond de rythmiques à la MADBALL.
Les riffs sont gros comme le guitariste de POISON IDEA, le chant rudement vindicatif, et les refrains fédérateurs.
On pense parfois à du BIOHAZARD début de carrière, et si l‘estampille germanique n’était pas là pour nous prouver le contraire, on se croirait presque dans Brooklyn by night, entouré de mines patibulaires à surins.
Car-jacking ? Presque, mais j’avoue que la linéarité du chant couplée à la monotonie des rythmes fait plus penser au vol à l’arrachée du sac à main d’une pauvre vieille. Les morceaux sont courts, tradition oblige, et même si les parties mélodiques aèrent l’ensemble, j’ai tendance à croire qu’elles plombent aussi le tout par leur maladresse.
Les arpèges en majeur sont simples, les riffs costauds mais rebattus, et le Hard-Core, même s’il tend parfois vers l’ascétisme au niveau de la composition, mérite tout de même un peu d’audace, surtout après 30 ans d’existence au compteur.
Si le but était de remettre en question l’autorité, le trop fameux Recognize No Authority des légendaires DETENTE accomplissait sa tâche avec beaucoup plus de brio.
Non, une démo sympa, mais qu’on range vite dans le casier, sans qu’elle ne donne envie d’acheter l’album.
Un marque page anecdotique en somme…
