Droit dans ses bottes, Biff Byford continue de nous offrir un Metal intemporel et imperméable aux modes. Les dernières sorties studio ont peu éloigné le groupe de son style initial. Ce live met en évidence cette constance, elle est un nouvel hommage à l’un des piliers de la NWOBHM.
Certes, on peut se demander si un nouveau live se justifie. On nous a déjà fait le coup trop souvent en nous arrachant quelques euro avec des live à répétitions. Et il est vrai que ce double album s’adresse essentiellement aux amateurs de SAXON. Pour eux, c’est un régal.
La grosse surprise est l’absence d’un paquet de morceaux cultes : “Strong Arm Of The Law”, “Motorcycle Man”, “747”, “Princess Of The Night” ou “Dallas 1pm”. Le groupe a pris conscience que ces titres ont déjà été servis à de nombreuses sauces et il a préféré nous offrir des compositions plus récentes ainsi que des chansons que l’on a rarement entendu en live. Et là, il faut bien admettre que c’est réussi. On aura tout juste droit à “Solid Balls Of Rock” et à “Crusader” parce que sinon c’est l’émeute !
Dans l’ensemble les morceaux sont assez fidèles aux originaux. On note toutefois quelques exceptions : “Unleash The Beast” est enchâssée à l’intérieur de “To Live By The Sword” ; la ligne de chant de “Broken Heroes” a été modifiée et l’émotion est encore plus grande.
Cet album n’a pas été enregistré au cours d’un seul concert mais d’une multitude tout au long de la tournée 2004/2005. La qualité est donc assez variable, elle dépend de la taille de la salle et de l’ambiance. De manière générale la production assez crue n’est pas géniale.
