The Seventh Gate s'auto-proclame l'étiquette "True American Satan Rock"... En fait c'est un mix de death et de black.
Le mix de deux types de voix se mêlant l'une à l'autre rend intéressant le disque. Une voix Death bien caverneuse et l'autre plutôt Black criarde s'alternent au cours des morceaux avec une dominance toutefois pour la voix Black.
Je ne parlerai pas de leur penchant pour la haine du Christ, c'est un débat en soit dans lequel je ne souhaite pas rentrer, je dirai juste qu'ils sont adeptent du Satanisme (en tout cas au niveau de leur musique!).
La production est bonne, la guitare et la voix (qui est "l'instrument" le plus travaillé et évolué) se marient bien mais la batterie manque de lourdeur.
Le titre "Battered Skin" est intéressant, il commence avec un sample de film (je suppose) puis une agressivité arrive avec un rythme rapide qui viendra s'atténuer après pour un coté plutôt mélodique. En somme un titre comme je les aime, à savoir travaillé aux rythmes changeant.
A noter que l'album comporte 8 titres suivis par quelques samples de films et en dernière piste "cachée" The Seventh Gate nous offre un titre mélodique avec un chant clair !!! No Comment !
Petit Hic quand même du coté des solos... Pas terribles, cafouillis et pas très audibles (certainement pour cacher les fausses notes !). Enfin, dans l'ensemble The Seventh Gate s'en sort plutôt pas mal, malgré le petit à priori que j'avais au départ du fait que ce soit un groupe satanique !
