Rassurez-vous, je ne vais pas vous prendre trop de votre temps précieux. Pour être précis, si vous lisez cette chronique en même temps que vous écoutez The Soundtrack To Your Violence, vous en aurez pour 14 minutes. Comptez environ une grosse minute par chanson, et le tour est joué. Vous voyez où je veux en venir ? Toujours pas ? Alors imaginez maintenant trois australiens sortis de nulle part avec la prétention d'être bruyants, très bruyants. On a tous déjà eu un voisin un peu con, qui te fout sa Dubstep à fond pendant que tu essaies de pioncer. Alors que ton cœur valdingue au rythme des basses, tu réfléchis à la possibilité de lui refaire la façade. Seulement, il a un regard de tueur et tu n'oses pas trop t'en approcher. C'est pareil avec THE KILL. On aimerait leur demander de faire moins de bruit, mais c'est comme un chromosome inscrit au plus profond de leur ADN. Et de toute façon, ces garçons sont capables de tout, comme en attestera cet EP ultra-expéditif sorti en 2003.
Vous aurez peut-être reconnu sur la pochette le visage angélique de Regan, la petite fille possédée dans L'Exorciste. Comme le suggère son titre, cet EP aurait surement pu être à la hauteur de la violence de ce film, si Danny Elfman n'avait pas fait des merveilles avec son "Tubular Bells". C'aurait été dans un autre genre, beaucoup plus cru, beaucoup plus Grind, moins angoissant mais tout aussi remuant. Depuis cette sortie, THE KILL s'est fendu en Océanie d'une réputation qui n'est plus à faire, copinant gaiement avec les Polonais d'ANTIGAMA. Ainsi, il est très intéressant d'avoir entre les mains la vraie Genèse de Make 'Em Suffer. Comme annoncé, avec 14 titres pour 14 minutes, The Soundtrack To Your Violence déroulera particulièrement vite. De la production crue de chez carpaccio aux quelques rares relents Death qui viennent découenner ce porc miséreux, tout est fait dans la plus pure tradition Grind. Un monceau inqualifiable de violence gratuite s'abat sur nos oreilles et comble du bon goût, nos Australiens, avec un "The Kill" de quinze secondes tiré de l'album Scum de NAPALM DEATH, marchent sur les pas de leurs glorieuses muses britanniques. Barbare et primitif, ce Grindcore livré dans son plus simple appareil revêt une couverture profondément engagée contre les effets de mode. Emos ("Fuck Emo") et fashionistas ("Fashion Victim") prendront très cher dans le cul sur des morceaux conçus pour ne pas s'étendre trop longtemps sur le sujet. Zéro poésie, pas plus de finesse, THE KILL taille dans le gras et du haut de sa formule rudimentaire (chant-guitare-batterie), mettra une bonne fessée aux amateurs de Grindcore crasseux et dépravé. Si le résultat est évidement d'une authenticité qui ravira les puristes, je trouve que la recette a aussi ses limites, surtout quand il s'agit de se renouveler. A titre indicatif, Barney et les siens n'ont pas le Grind beaucoup plus musical, mais au bout de trente ans, ils le pratiquent avec toujours autant de classe, un concept que THE KILL ne pourra jamais ne serait-ce qu'effleurer.
J'aime le Grind qui ne mélange pas efficacité et bruitisme absolu. J'aime le Grind qui ne mélange pas dénonciation et crachats gratuits. Force est de constater que THE KILL avait fait un choix fort, et qu'ils s'y tiennent encore aujourd'hui. Pas sur que ce soit le bon quand on comprend qu'une minute (ou un titre) supplémentaire sur The Soundtrack To Your Violence aurait été un titre de trop. Sur ce point, la balance est équilibrée, et c'est à peu près la seule chose qui est convenablement proportionnée sur cet EP, plus maladroit que stupide.
