Pour tout fan de Heavy Metal, la sortie d’un live de Judas Priest est un événement non négligeable. Pourtant qu’est-ce qui a bien pu motiver le groupe à sortir un nouveau live alors que l’excellent “Live Meltdown” avait pleinement fait son office seulement 5 ans auparavant ? On peut imaginer que c’est la maison de disques qui fut au départ de cette idée, motivée qu’elle était de remplir le tiroir caisse après les ventes décevantes de “Demolition”. D’ailleurs la lecture du livret est, à elle seule une publicité non déguisée pour l’album.
Alors, oui, cet album est impeccable, il retranscrit toute l’énergie de Priest sur scène, mais on a une impression de déjà entendu. Un seul album sépare ces deux live et cela se ressent inévitablement : la track-list est presque identique et pour cause : comment faire l’impasse sur des chefs d’œuvre tels que “Metal Gods”, “Touch Of Evil”, “Painkiller” ou “Hell Bent…” ? Comment se priver de créations plus récentes aussi fortes que “Blood Stained” ou “Bullet Train” ? Impossible. Donc on les retrouve toutes. La production est elle-aussi très proche, ce qui cultive l’illusion d’une redite. Toutefois, parmi les titres ne figurant pas sur “Meltdown”, on se réjouit de retrouver “Turbo Lover” interprétée par Tim Owens, ça fait quelque chose !
Un bon moment de Heavy Metal, voilà ce que nous procure ce nouveau live que l’on considérera comme le testament de Ripper avant le retour du Metal God…
