Soundscape Of Silence est le cinquième album de BEFORE THE DAWN. Ceux qui, comme moi, ne connaissaient pas encore ce groupe risquent d’en entendre plus parler avec ce nouvel effort. C’est à la fois accessible et accrocheur mais possède aussi tout ce qui peut contenter un amateur de Metal extrême à tendance mélodique. Déjà, on a le droit à une grosse production bien nordique. Les guitares sont très puissantes, la basse bien présente, sans être écrasante, et on entre sans difficulté dans l’univers véhiculé par les morceaux. L’alternance entre la voix claire de Lars Eikind, qui officie à la basse, et la voix Death de Tuomas Saukkonen se fait tout naturellement. D’ailleurs, on ne peut que saluer ces changements qui aèrent la musique et lui confère une originalité. Les titres y auraient perdus sinon. Non pas qu’ils ne sont pas bons, mais on ne s’extasie pas non plus devant leur ingéniosité. Heureusement que les voix et les arrangements sont là pour poser les ambiances. C’est d’ailleurs de ce côté qu’il faut chercher le réel intérêt de Soundscape Of Silence. Les titres arrivent tous à nous plonger dans des ambiances, souvent mélancoliques, parfois plus brutales (« Savior »). On notera certains titres qui sortent un peu du lot, comme « Cold » et son riff qui donne l’impression de faire une incursion dans le monde du Folk Metal version KORPIKLAANI. On ne pénètre pas non plus totalement dans le paysage folk, mais on se voit bien quand même franchir la porte de la taverne pour commander une cervoise. « Silence » a des influences plus Pop, marquées par la basse très présente et la voix tout en douceur. J’ai même pensé un rien à DEPECHE MODE à la première écoute de ce titre. « Fabrication » a des accents Progressif, sans vraiment passer le cap. Le plus gros reproche que l’on pourrait faire à cet album est sa durée. Les titres excèdent rarement les quatre minutes et on sent parfois qu’il manque quelque chose dans leur développement (« Monster »). Malgré tout, ce Soundscape Of Silence mérite qu’on s’y attarde. Nul doute qu’une de ses facettes saura vous séduire.
