Même s’il est de bon ton de parler des Ch’tis à toutes les sauces en ce moment, n’allez pas croire que l’objectivité de cette chronique en sera modifiée sous prétexte que TREPAN’DEAD débarque de Valenciennes. Au contraire, ce groupe m’inspire la méfiance car de une, ils ont livré un très bon Obsessional Dysfunctions en 2006 et que de deux, je suis du genre à penser que tout le foin autour du film de Dany Boon est largement dispensable et que la focalisation qui en découle sur le Nord et ses us en devient abusive et erronée. Alors voyons ce que nos nordistes ont dans le ventre avec cette autoproduction poétiquement nommée Anonymous Grindoholics.
Tout d’abord, ce qu’il faut savoir, c’est que TREPAN’DEAD n’est pas du genre casanier mais plutôt nomade, explorant des zones Death en s’appuyant sur une solide armature Grind bien délirante. Effectivement, parmi les deux grandes catégories de Grind (« de chirgurgien » avec pour têtes d’affiche LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY, LYMPHATIC PHLEGM ou « barré » avec ULTRA VOMIT et consorts), les valenciennois préfèrent l’humour décapant aux amputations gangrénées. C’est ainsi que nous avons le plaisir d’entendre des samples à caractère humoristique foisonner. Je me permets de relever le « nettoyer le goudron collé sur la roche, infiltré un peu partout est une opération désespérante » qui m’a anormalement fait rire quelques minutes. Mais hélas, l’essentiel est invisible. Et l’essentiel ici, c’est la musique. Et si l’humour à beau être décapant, les compositions le sont un peu moins. Tout au long de ces huit petits titres, on reste désespérément accrochés à une structure ultra-bourrine faite de guitares bourlingueuses, d’une batterie au taquet et de vocaux sudoripares (mais néanmoins excellents). Une petite oxygénation, quelques pirouettes mélodiques, même un solo n’auraient pas été de refus, histoire de dissiper cette chape de plomb. Ca plaira, c’est certain, mais seulement aux connaisseurs. Ceux qui aiment la linéarité, l’absence de musicalité, quand ça vrille dans tous les sens y trouveront surement leur compte. Mais peut-on réellement leur reprocher un manque d’efforts ? Difficilement tant Anonymous Grindoholics sent la braise et le souffre et semble être taillé pour les inconditionnels du genre. Enfin, une petite ligne quant à la qualité audio de cette autoproduction, assez distincte ce qui, assurément, joue un rôle important au final et fait par la même occasion briller de mille feux la maîtrise technique des de nos Ch’tis, seule chose que l’on ne peut pas leur imputer.
Sûr qu’a court terme, ce disque déborde de bonnes ondes et d’énergies positives mais il va maintenant falloir batailler ferme et passer la vitesse supérieure pour marquer d’une pierre blanche l’appartenance de TREPAN’DEAD au cercle fermé des piliers du Grind français et sortir de ce platonisme qui tend à devenir ambiant.
