Si je travaillais dans le marketing (Jaja m’en préserve !), je dirais que 4LYN possède un avantage concurrentiel sur les autres groupes. En effet, en seulement quelques notes, ils savent accrocher les esgourdes, capter l’attention et définir l’album que l’on va écouter. Comme ça, pas de surprises, on est en terrain connu rapidement. D’un autre côté, cela peut aussi être un désavantage pour ceux qui n’aiment pas leur musique instantanément ou ceux qui aiment les morceaux labyrinthiques. Bon, ceux-là n’aimeront de toutes manières pas ce groupe, donc, on zappe.
Donc, dés les premières mesures de « The Grind », on sait dans quoi on se lance : une écoute facile et sans prise de tête avec des morceaux qui sont tous des tubes en puissance et taillés pour la diffusion radio. Bon, c’est aussi une musique que l’on réserve plus généralement aux auditeurs un rien plus jeunes, limite qui n’écouteront plus de « Metal » dans quelques mois ou quelques semaines. Seulement, là où certains groupes puent l’attaque publicitaire à plein nez, on sent chez 4LYN un quelque chose qui fait qu’on croit quand même à leur musique. On poursuit donc l’écoute sans se prendre la tête, mais sans rechigner non plus. Et, chacun à sa manière, tous les morceaux font plaisir à entendre. Que ce soit le très tubesque « Hello (For You I’M Dying) » ou encore la ballade mielleuse, convenue mais très bien faite qu’est « Nostalgia » et son refrain mélodique puissant. Même le un peu moins bon « Lovemaker/Soulshaker » possède quand même cette force attractive intrinsèque qui peut en faire un bon single. « Cowboys » lorgne plus vers un Neo Metal à la LINKIN PARK sans vraiment réussir à atteindre la même qualité. « The Jumpoff » possède une boucle électro en intro qui a été gâchée dans le reste du morceau. Dommage.
Hello est un album extrêmement convenu et prévisible, mais il reste dans les esprits avec ses refrains faciles et bien faits. Même s’il ne saura contenter un aficionado auquel il faut plus de surprise, il saura par contre toucher une frange d’auditeurs qui n’ose jamais s’aventurer à fond dans le Metal par peur de la brutalité mais qui aime bien être remuée quand même par moment. Et, personnellement, je trouve que cet album a quand même pas mal de qualités qui font qu’on ne peut le mettre à la poubelle sans l’avoir au moins essayé.
