Avec Turn Into Grey, on peut dire que OUTREMER a été terriblement marqué par un groupe comme CATHEDRAL et l’album Carnival Bizarre. Certes les influences de BLACK SABBATH sont également palpables et indéniables, mais on sent que le groupe de Lee Dorian est vénéré par OURTEMER.
OUTREMER a été formé pendant l’année 2001, mais les membres du groupe ne sont pas des novices et certains d’entre eux jouent ensemble depuis plus de 16 ans (anciens membres de SORCERY). Le line-up se compose de Mikael Jansson à la basse, Ola Malmström, au chant, Joacim Olofsson à la batterie et à Henrik Lindenmo la guitare.
Sur les cinq titre que compte Turn Into Grey, on remarque tout de suite que la voix de Ola Malmström ressemble étrangement à celle de Lee pourtant unique et inimitable. La rythmique est massive et caractérisée par une certaine lenteur propre au Doom. Les passages instrumentaux mélodiques viennent régulièrement enrichir les titres de l’album et le rendre un peu moins monocorde.
Seulement deux des cinq titres sont vraiment à ressortir : « Turn Into Grey » et « Left Unfound ». Les trois autres ne sont que du remplissage et n’apportent rien au genre. Dommage car Turn Into Grey débutait bien par le titre éponyme et son riff imparable : on se croirait dans les 70’s avec un son moderne et une production impeccable. CATHEDRAL et même le grand BLACK SABBATH n’auraient pas renié ce morceau.
Avec un peu moins de 30 minutes de zic, c’est un peu court pour convaincre et lorsque deux titres sur cinq sont seulement efficaces, cela est encore plus juste. « Left Unfound » est un titre mid-tempo fracassant, avec des solos heavy inspirés mais assez simples, avec une touche mélancolique pénétrante.
Turn Into Grey est psychédélique et noir, assez rock n’roll dans l’esprit, qui demande un peu plus d’effort de la part du groupe pour convaincre.
