Après les deux albums best of, voici un double live. On peut toujours s’interroger sur le côté incontestablement mercantile d’une telle salve de cd, à quoi bon. Concentrons-nous sur le contenu. Ce Live In America est franchement en dessous de nos espérances à plusieurs égards. En premier lieu, il n’est pas très fourni : en apparence, 18 titres, c’est plutôt bien. Pourtant lorsqu’on termine l’écoute on reste franchement sur sa faim. La faute à trop de « bouches trous » ci et là qui cassent la densité du concert. L’ensemble de la carrière de Jorn recèle de suffisamment de bons morceaux pour qu’il ose s’attaquer à l’exercice du live sans complexe ; pourtant il exprime le besoin à tout bout de champ de s’appuyer sur ses aînés. Et si l’on retranche le long tribute à WHITESNAKE (18 minutes) et l’hommage à DEEP PURPLE, l’ensemble perd énormément de consistance. Mais ce n’est pas fini, il faut aussi exclure les solos de batterie et de guitares dont personne ne se relèvera la nuit pour les écouter. Et si l’on retire également les 3 derniers titres studio, vous aurez compris qu’il ne reste plus grand-chose de ce double live. Or, ces derniers titres, parlons-en : deux d’entre eux figuraient déjà sur les albums best of ! Dont « Lonely Is The World / Letters From Earth » qui emprunte à… BLACK SABBATH. Jorn a vraiment du mal à se débarrasser de ses influences !
La qualité générale n’est pas non plus exempte de critiques : son interprétation de « Perfect Stranger », par exemple, est très en dessous de sa version studio. Le reste est plutôt bien en place mais de petites baisses de régimes viennent un peu émailler notre plaisir déjà fortement dilué.
Ce live n’est pas franchement mauvais dans la mesure où Jorn a beaucoup de talent et qu’il interprète un paquet de bonnes chansons, mais il n’est pas au maximum de ses capacités. Les fans vont s’en rendre compte, et les nouveaux venus aussi ; c’est donc une mauvaise opération.
