Le changement de chanteur est toujours un moment extrêmement délicat et lourd de conséquences dans la vie d’un groupe. Mais ici, le problème est que Torben Alkholm avait un timbre de voix très particulier qui contribuait largement à la personnalité du groupe. Son infection de la gorge a poussé à lui trouver un remplaçant d’un genre bien différent. Plus clair, plus limpide, Jacob Hansen n’est pas dénué de talent, on pourrait même s’aventurer à dire qu’il est un meilleur chanteur. Le truc c’est qu’il n’a pas ce grain, cette personnalité. Son chant est typique des groupes de prog : puissant et cristallin. Du coup, on a un peu peur que ANUBIS GATE ne parvienne pas à se distinguer dans la masse des groupes évoluant dans ce style.
Pour accentuer la différence, les guitares, autrefois incisives et tranchantes, se sont émoussées. La priorité a été donnée au côté progressif : des structures complexes avec moult breaks et cassures de rythmes prennent le pas sur le martèlement des riffs. ANUBIS GATE ajoute son nom à la longue liste des groupes de prog et prend les mêmes travers que beaucoup d’entre eux : surenchère technique, abus des structures alambiquées, intros et outros inutiles.
L’ensemble est bien ficelé et la production est d’une propreté irréprochable. Cet album devrait donc davantage séduire les amateurs de prog que les fans d’ANUBIS GATE. Dommage ?
